The easiest method to diagnose such symptoms is when your cat passes out small quantities of hard, dry feces. If such symptoms happen, it could mean that your kitten is experiencing constipation. Cat owners have to be wary as prolonged kitten constipation may cause health problems to your cats and in certain situations, death may even occur.
So how do we treat kitten constipation?
Step 1: Always set up water stations (e.g. a few dishes with water) that are easily within the reach of your kittens. This is because dehydration is usually a common factor which results in constipation. Always make it a habit to change and refill the water daily.
Step 2: If possible, do not feed your kittens with dry cat foods as dry foods do not contain enough fibre (another source for dehydration to happen). Feed it moist food instead. Most veterinary have also noted that cat foods which are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids provides kitten with proteins for helping them in the development of strong bones and brain tissues (you may have already heard of this applying to humans also!).
Step 3: Mix a tablespoon of canned pumpkin together with 3 drops of vegetable oil into your kitten's food before serving it. When canned pumpkin is mixed with vegetable oil, chemicals are reproduced which will act as a stool softener guaranteed to help your kitten regulate its bowel movement within a day.
Step 4: Always play with your kitten or bring your kitten out for a walk. Exercising is definitely beneficial for your kitten as it helps to digest the food that it has eaten.
In addition, I have also included a section on a nutritious diet recipe for owners to prepare for their kittens:
Kitty Protein Recipe:
Ingredients:
2 cups of milk
2 eggs
4 teaspoons of protein powder
100mg of taurine
Steps:
Mix these ingredients together and pour it into your kitten's milk dish. Serve it warm.
For all Kitten owners: Do bear in mind that for a cat's meal to be healthy, owners have to include a dietary ratio of 60% meat and 40% of vegetables.
