Using a cold compress to treat knee problems can help the knee heel and ease the pain, due to an injury. One way to use this method is to get an ice pack, wrap it in a towel and place it over your knee. Make sure you are laying down and elevate your leg so that your knee is higher than your heart. This will keep the swelling down in your knee.
You can also take a hand towel, wet it and put it in the freezer. Before putting the hand towel in the freezer shape it to fit your knee. Once the towel is frozen lay down, put a pillow under your knee and place the towel over your knee.
Hot Compress
On a low heat simmer herbs in a pot, one cut per pint of water. Once the tea is at a temperature you can with stand, soak a towel in the tea and wring the towel out. Lay down elevating the knee and wrap the knee with the towel. As the towel cools, soak the towel in the tea again and apply the towel to the knee. You may also boil the tea and pour it into a bottle, the tea will be hot so wrap the bottle in a towel and place over the knee.
You may also use a heating pad to help with a knee problem. With a heating pad you can adjust the heat to your comfort.
Compression Bandage
A compression bandage helps prevent fluid build up in damaged tissue and is light weight. The compression bandage is breathable and self-adhesive. The bandage maintains knee alignment and stability. Make sure the bandage is tight but not to tight to where it cuts off the circulation
Rest And Elevation
If you are suffering from a knee problem, staying off it and resting is a good way to prevent further damage. This will also help the healing process. If you have a knee problem and you ignore it by playing sports or just being up on it, causing more damage to the injury is most likely going to occur. It is best to stay laying down and put a pillow under your knee. You will still have to get up to do other things like, shower, use the restroom, or other daily routines. When doing these daily routines use crutches to help keep some of the weight off your knee. It is ok to be up for short periods of time, this will help your knee from becoming stiff.
