How to Use a Tripod

Daniel Rein
Tripods are very useful objects that many fail to utilize. What is so special about a tripod you might ask? Well read some more and I will explain to you the value of a tripod. Tripods come in hands when you are watching your son or daughter's basketball game or school play.

Instead of holding the camcorder the entire time and recording the show, you can attach your camcorder to the Tripod and then sit down and enjoy the game and talk with your family and friends about how great your child is. Tripods are also great for recording something and getting a good video from it. For example, school graduations are often recorded using a tripod.

Tripod stands have the flexibility to move up and down to get a better image and move sideways as well to follow the action. Tripods come in all sizes and shapes and before you buy one, you should recognize what purposes you will have for the tripod to determine what size you will need.

How a Tripod Works: A tripod, like its name says, has three legs which it stands on. The legs spread apart to varying lengths and angles for the person to use. There is also a handle on the size of the tripod or on top of the tripod to move it up and down. Attaching the camcorder or camera to the tripod is also very simple.

Most models are built the same way and have a small hole drilled into them on the bottom of the camcorder. The tripod also contains a knob and a screw at the top of the camcorder with a flat surface attached to it to hold the camera down. The knob allows you to tighten or loosen the screw.

This screw goes into the bottom of the camcorder or camera. Tighten the knob of the screw and make sure that the camcorder is safely secured onto the tripod so that it doesn't fall and break when it is moved up and down or from side to side. When you are done using the camcorder and tripod, loosen the camcorder on the tripod by twisting the knob which loosens the screw on the camcorder.

Finally, when you are done with use of the tripod, close the three legs by bringing them together. Bring the lever that moves the camcorder up and down back to its original position which is usually between the three camcorders.
