How to Make a T-Shirt Bag

Robin Neorr

Do you have an old T-shirt that doesn't fit anymore. It has been stretched out so much that you just can't wear it but you do not want to throw it away?

Making a T-shirt bag is easy and you will be absolutely amazed at how much stuff (from produce to sand toys) that you can fit in it. Once you make one T-shirt bag you will be hooked.

What you will need:

· T-shirt

· Sewing machine or Serger

· Fabric marker

· Scissors

Start by laying out your T-shirt, front side facing you, on a flat surface.

Use your fabric marker to draw around the neckline. You will want to dip down the neckline in order to have an adequate opening to you bag.

Use your marker to draw a line inside the seam of the T-shirts sleeves.

Using your fabric scissors you will want to carefully cut off the sleeves and cut out the neckline.

Turn your T-shirt inside out. You will want to serge across the bottom of your T-shirt. If you do not have a serger you can sew across the bottom of your T-shirt bag with a zig-zag stitch about one inch from the bottom. Once you sew across the bottom you can cut off the excess material leaving a quarter of an inch between the stitch and the edge of the shirt.

Turn the shirt inside out and you are ready to go. Take this bag with you next time you go to your Community Shared Agriculture night or the closest farmers market.

These are great and you can still remember the occasion or concert or whatever that the t-shirt commemorates.
