Before you get started making your Thanksgiving turkey chair covers you are going to need to gather your supplies needed for the project. You are going to need felt, glue, pins, and reposition glue which all can be found at your local craft store or retail store for about 10 dollars. In order to know how much felt you are going to need, you need to measure your chair. Start from the back of the chair at the spot you want the felt to hang to and then proceed to take your measurement up over the top of the chair and down to the seat or arms if your chair has them. This measurement is the length of felt you are going to need from the craft store, so keep this measurement written down somewhere safe. You then need to measure the width of the chair from the widest point and add that to the total thickness of the chair, adding one inch for the seams of your chair.
Once you have measured the amount of felt you are going to need you can purchase felt in any reasonable color at your local craft store and you also can check into the clearance bins to see if they have the amount of felt you need at a lower price. If you want to keep your turkey chair covers fairly neutral to match other items in your house, you can choose a standard white felt or creme color. Remember, your Thanksgiving turkey chair covers are going to be decorated so you do not want to use too dark of a felt pattern.
After you have purchased your felt, you then should be able to put the felt onto your chairs how you want them and pin them into place. Take the chair covers off and use your fabric glue to glue the sides together where you pinned them or if you want you can sew the edges with a sewing machine for a more professional look. For the decorations to your Thanksgiving turkey chair covers, you need to download the turkey chair cover printable templates. The free printable Thanksgiving chair cover templates are read using Adobe Reader and can be altered or changed using a photo shop or image altering program.
After you print these templates out, you can then trace the templates onto your felt or other materials such as ribbon or colored paper. Cut out the turkey design and you could decorate the turkey using crayons and fabric stencils if you want to add some more colors to the chair covers. Put the turkey together without gluing them so you know how it will look, and apply some repositioning glue on the back of each template. Once you have the glue on the back of each template, you can then press and hold the pieces to your chair covers. You can arrange the turkey in any position you want and depending on if you manipulated the size of the template you might have a bigger turkey or a smaller turkey.. Once you have firmly pressed the turkey onto your chair covers, you are left with a beautiful and fun Thanksgiving craft that the whole family can do and enjoy.
When Thanksgiving is done you can either save them for next year by storing them away in a protective bag, or throw them out and make new decorations next Thanksgiving. Everything you need for this Thanksgiving chair cover craft project can be bought at a craft store and is very cheap to make since all of the materials are fairly cheap. This turkey chair cover craft idea for Thanksgiving is a great way to add spice to your house for Thanksgiving even if you are on a budget and it is also a great craft idea for the children to get involved with.
