How to Turn Your Blogger Images into Clickable Links

Andrea Ruiz
Blogger is a free, Web-based blog-publishing platform that allows users to post images, videos and content to their blogs. By default, Blogger's image-adding process shrinks your image to fit your blog layout, then hyperlinks the thumbnail image to its original size version. But you may want to make the image link to another site altogether instead of just leading the visitor to a bigger version of itself. For example, you may want to add an affiliate banner or advertising button, and you want your visitors to be taken to another site when they click on it. If so, it can be a little tricky to make your Blogger images clickable to other websites. Here's a quick step-by-step tutorial to changing the default URL on Blogger image uploads.

- Visit Blogger.com while logged into your Google account and click the "New Post" button under the title of your blog.

- Click the "Compose" tab in the new post form if it's not already selected. Compose your post with whatever content you want it to have. Format it to your liking, and give it a subject line.

- Click the space in the content where you want your hyperlinked image to appear, then click the "Add Image" button. This is the third button from the right in the button menu across the top of the post form. A pop-up window appears with the image-uploading form. Here, you have to decide where you're going to upload your image from.

- Click the "Browse" button to add an image on your hard drive, or type the URL of the image in the "Add an Image From the Web" field.

- Blogger allows you to pre-format your image somewhat before inserting it into your post, so choose whether you want your image to orient toward the right, left or center of your post, and click the radio button next to "Small," "Medium" or "Large," depending on the size you want it to appear. If you want the image to appear in its original size, click "Large."

- Check the box accepting Blogger.com's terms of service and click the "Upload Image" button.

- Click the blue "Done" button to close the pop-up window and insert the image into your post.

- Click the "Edit HTML" tab above the post form. Locate the tag next to the image source code that says:

href="http://yourblogspotaddress.com/yourimage-info.jpg"

Change the URL within the quotation marks to the URL you want your image to link to. Click the orange "Publish Post" button to post your image and your new post to your blog.

Be sure to check that your image links to the correct URL by visiting your new Blogger post and clicking the image. If this takes you to the wrong page, click the "Edit" icon in the post and edit the code so that it includes the correct URL. That's all there is to it!
