How to Turn Your Facebook into Your Very Own Pirate Ship

Skull and Crossbones Has Nothing on Facebook

Erik Wesley
Landlubbers beware, there is a new captain in town. Aye, that's right, I've joined ye scallywags upon the 7 seas, and my pirate ship will reign the waters of social networking hereafter.

What in the world do pirate ships have to do with Facebook?
Trust me when I say that the combination surprises me as well. Facebook has embraced the pirate ship experience by allowing users to transform the text and options into pirate-y slogans and sayings.

My first pirate ship surprise hit me after I accepted the option when I read the typical "what's on your mind?" status question and had to do a double-take: "what be troublin' ye?" Other pirate ship sayings abound in the new theme such as:

"Divvy spoils to all ye mateys!" for the "share" option.

"Cap'n's Log" for "info."

"Adjust ye riggin's" for "settings."

"Swab" for "clear" or "delete."

"Abandon ship!" for the "logout" option.

Gives me that down home feeling I used to have when ordering me matey's to swab the deck on me olde pirate ship.

Oops, sorry...got carried away.

The new option beta for Facebook is fun, and a good way to get a chuckle any day.

How do I turn my Facebook into my own private pirate ship?
To get the pirate experience on Facebook, the steps are simple. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the link that says English (US) right next to the Facebook 2009 copyright.

You should then be presented with a host of language options that all fall within your typical language expectations. To access your scurvy goodness, you will want to click on the option that says "English (Pirate)." Currently this ship can only be captained in beta version, but since applying it to my Facebook I have had no problems.

The pirate ship experience can go even further. If you receive Facebook notifications via SMS or text on your phone, those messages will also bear the mark of your captainship. Your notifications on your mobile device will keep you connected to the watery dream as well, and that's nothing to shake a wooden leg at.

I highly recommend that everyone try this fun new option at some point, if even only for a day. Save the pirate ship Facebook experience for a day that has proven particularly troublesome. Then those landlubbers and scoundrels can entertain and cast sunshine over the pall that has churned your waters. Translated: This is a great way to have a good time doing the things you already love to do. Enjoy the day!

Although I'm on Facebook, it was merely at my daughter's request. I don't do much but answer a few surveys. This is definitely worth a try!
