The iPad comes with built in WiFi capability meaning that it is capable of connecting wirelessly to nearby WiFi hot spots and wireless networks. However if WiFi is disabled the connection will not be accessible.
Tap the "Settings" icon on the iPad home screen.
Look for an option labeled as "WiFi" and tap it once. If it says "OFF" next to "WiFi" make sure you tap "Wifi" once to change the status to "ON."
Wait for some available nearby networks to appear in the right side of the screen. Networks with a padlock next to them require a secure password. Networks without a padlock icon are unsecured and do not require a password.
If you know the name of the network you want to connect to, tap the selection in the list. If not or if you are connecting to any available network, choose the network with the highest signal. You can determine this by the signal strength icon next to each network name. If a icon has all of its bars highlighted you will know this network has the best signal strength.
Tap the network you want to join. Tap "Join" or if prompted enter the network password. You can do this by tapping once in the password text box that appears. Wait for the on screen keyboard to appear and type in the password.
Tap "Join" once you have entered the password. Wait a few seconds for the connection to be established. You can monitor your connection and signal strength by looking at the small WiFi icon in the top right of the screen.
If the signal seems spotty or the connection seems slow you should try repeating these steps and connecting to another network. You can also attempt to move closer to the wireless router or move away from possible interference such as cell phones, computers, or other wireless devices.
