How to Turn Off System Restore for Better Performance Gains on Your Computer

C. O.
Although system restore is an excellent program to have running on your computer it does come at a price and that is taking up a lots of space on your hard drive. If you don't know what a system restore is, it's a program that allows you to create restore points which captures and saves how your computer is setup at the time you made the restore point. If for some reason something happened to your computer later in the future you could use system restore to go back to that earlier time before you computer started to mess up. Although system restores don't always work they can save you a lot of trouble later if something happens to your computer you can't fix. If your willing to remove this feature or at least lower how much space it takes from your hard drive then try out the following steps:

1.)Click on start then right click on my computer

2.)A drop down box will appear so choose properties

3.)A window called system properties will appear so click on the tab called system restore

4.)From here you can choose from two options: remove system restore completely by checking the box that says "turn off system restore on all drives or you can lower the amount of space system restore uses on your hard drives. If you decide to remove it completely then click on the box and click apply and ok and your finished. If not and you want to lower the amount of space system restore uses go to the next step.

5.)From this screen choose from the available drives on your computer and then click on the settings button.

6.)Now just move the slider to the left to decrease and to the right to increase hard drive space and do the same with the other drives then click apply and ok and your finished.

Remember this, the less space you decide to use for system restore, the less amount of available system restores points there will be since your limiting it to a certain amount of megabytes. For my recommendation I advise you keep system restore on just in case you happen to run into a problem with something later on rather it be viruses or computer failure problems. Lowering system restores amount of space will more then suffice when making your computer faster and as an extra bonus you get to keep system restore, which is a great tool for any computer. I'll leave it up to you what to do, but be warned once you disable system restore all your available restore points will be deleted.
