How to Turn Tabbed Browsing Off Using Internet Explorer

Idalia Benavides
Do you have Internet Explorer 7 already? Well, if you do then you know, that the newest thing that you're able to use is tabbed browsing. If you're a current user of tabbed browsing on IE7 though, you know that it slows down IE's speed a great deal, and it also makes it crash way to often. If you're sick and tired of having IE crash because of this, and you rather not have the tabbed browsing enabled on your browser then this article is for you. I am going to walk you through all of the steps that you need to take in order to not have the tabbed browsing abilities available to you. If at any time you feel that you want them back, you can just repeat this same process again to enable it.

Steps:

1. Open up an Internet Explorer browser.

2. Look for the Tools link and then click on it to show the pull down menu that it shows.

3. Look for the Internet Options there and select it. This will bring up another window.

4. Make sure that you are on the General tab. If you are not, just click on it at the top of the window.

5. Once you are there, look for Tabs and then click on the button that says Settings for it.

6. Hitting the Settings button will bring up the Tabbed Browsing Settings. In order to disable tabbed browsing you need to uncheck the first checkbox that shows up there. It will say "Enable Tabbed Browsing (requires restarting Internet Explorer).

7. Once you have done this, click on Ok to close this screen and then select Apply or Ok on the Internet Options window.

8.When that is done, all you need to do is close all Internet Explorer windows that might be open and then start off a new IE browser.

Note: If you do not see the Tabs headline by clicking on the General tab, then you do not have Internet Explorer 7; meaning that you don't have the tabs options available at all to you.

Tip: If you would like to enable the tabs again, all you have to do is redo this guide over and check the Enable Tabbed Browsing checkbox again.

Note: You can also adjust some of the tabbed browsing settings or restore them to the default settings by just selecting the option to do so that's found on the screen.
