How I Turned Off the TV to Turn on My Life

You Don't Have to Be a Zen Master to Enjoy Life

Since I have turned off the TV and gone on a media fast, it was difficult at first, but I found it freeing and gave me more time to take up the clarinet, and write poetry. You might find this drastic, but if you are like me and didn't enjoy much of the programming because it offended your morals, it could be the best thing for you. No more feeling outraged at the scandalous behavior being tramped around.

A lot of the news is so irrelevant and repeated that you don't need to watch it all day to keep up to date, its just people like to watch train wrecks. I don't know why, but they feed off of others misery. And it would be a lot better for everyone if they followed their hearts rather than sat and was brainwashed by television.

And people really are brainwashed. They think that true happiness is living in sin and living a sleazy lifestyle. Young girls are promiscuous at an early age and think it is good fun. How sad. Life is precious don't let a moment slip by. I get so choked up by Christian music it is hard for me to sing along sometimes.

Find the beauty in life and you will be grateful. God has let me seen majestic beauty all across this great land. I have seen Alaska, Florida, New Mexico, and I can't think of a better country to live in. We are much safer than Iraq. Cleaner than China, and have as much natural beauty as anywhere else. It is a shame when people tear down charming old architecture to put up new sky rise buildings. But people are learning to appreciate beautiful architecture. There are even tours in places like Chicago to see architecture.

Don't take this life for granted. There is more beauty, more joy, if you only look for it and appreciate it. You don't have to be a Zen Master to enjoy the sight and scent of a beautiful wild flower, just human.

I don't have the words to describe all the wonders I have seen. But people could do with much more gratitude in their lives. We are blessed indeed. We don't have to be famous to enjoy life. Just more human. Aware of our frailty and being more gentle with ourselves. We are each precious to a loving God. And if that isn't reason to rejoice, I don't know what is.

We have the choice to live in our heads full of negative thinking, or be grateful to be alive. And turning off the TV was my way of turning on my life.
