How to Twink Your Character in World of Warcraft

In case you're not already aware of exactly what the term "twinking" means, twinks are the guys in battle grounds you see who have twice as much health as you, hit damage for more than your total health, and seem to be above and beyond everyone else in their brackets.

These characters are considered to be "twinked"because they have all of the best gear that they can possibly get, as well as the best enchants and other enhancements to make their character the absolute best possible. Of course this art and hobby in World of Warcraft can be expensive and difficult, but it can also be extremely rewarding and fun.

After you reach the level cap and get all of your gear on your main character, you may get bored with end-game content. Since it's so easy to get gold now, a lot of players decide to twink a new toon to dominate a select bracket of the battle grounds. Unfortanetely, more and more players are doing this, making it extremely hard for non-twinks to play battle grounds in specific brackets, as well as more difficult for a twink to keep up in the battle grounds and get their enchants and gear.

This article isn't about describing twinks or why people twink, more to help you create your own twink characer. Twinking is something I love doing because I love playing battle grounds; I love a good chance to stomp the ally to the ground, and a chance to farm some honor and get the best equips out there and make my character better than any other character of my level.

Before even thinking about twinking, know that you're going to need gold. Lots and lots of gold. In fact, you're probably not even going to make a twink for anywhere under 1,000 gold. Not a proper twink that keeps up with the competition, anyways. The better enchants and gear you can get, the better you will be out there on the battlegrounds and the more fulfilling having your twink on the field will be. You want to rack up kills and murder the enemy; not be at a disadvantage to other twinks because you couldn't afford to get that great of gear or enchants.

The first part of the gear I'll talk about is the direct armor and weapons that you'll need. Since I'm not sure what bracket you're planning on dominating, it's a bit harder to determine. Know that if you're anywhere over 40, you should be using epics. If you're in any bracket under that, all of your equips should be either blue, possibly an occasional green if you can't find anything better.

Occasionally, you'll be able to find your twink equips on the auction house. Regardless of the price, they're worth it for your time, since you can just get on your main account and make the money for these equips in a hurry. The best equips for you, are between the 7-9 of your level bracket. If you want to twink 29, make sure to get equips from 27-29, the higher the level the better, and try to make sure they're blues in this case.

I suggest getting atlas loot. This addon will tell you all of the drops in instances, the drop rates, what drops them, and the characteristics of the drops. This addon is great for twinking, or just running instances for equips in general, and can be downloaded at curse.com.

Getting enchants and enhancing these equips is equally or more important than the equips their selves. You're doing to need to get the best possible enchants on your weapons, armor, shield, etc. You can look up these enchants in atlas loot. Again I can't really give specific advice on enchants, because I'm not sure exactly what bracket you're interested in twinking. However, make sure to twink for damage and health. These are going to give you the biggest advantages in battle grounds.

Make sure to get some sort of enhancement on your legs as well, like clefthide or nethercleft for example, instead of an enchant. These equips are great for twinkers as they massively up your health, as well as your damage per second.

Twinking is definitely a long, but valuable process. It's fun in the long run, and it totally changes your play in World of Warcraft. If you ever need help twinking, consider joining a twink guild for financial and battle grounds support from friends. Have fun and do your best!
