Skyler Raine
When trick or treaters come to your door at Halloween do you just offer them a bowl of candy and let them help themselves? Don't you ever wish that you could put more effort into Halloween but don't know how? Well here is a step by step guide to not only making your own gift bags but to make homemade treats to go in them too!

The gift bag

There are a few ways that you can create a spooky bag. One way is to get a plain white bag and make it spooky by using templates, pictures or free hand drawings to decorate it. You can buy pictures or you can trace them out of books if you aren't that great at drawing. If are really struggling, you can print them off from the internet.

Other ways to give your treats out is in pumpkin shaped bags or severed head shaped bags. These can be easily made by getting two of the same picture and sticking them down around the edge, leaving a gap at the top to put the treats in.

The Treats

Now all kids love candy and it's the main reason they go out trick or treating so why not make some unique sweet treats for your trick or treaters?

Eyeball cookies always go down well and are a great treat for kids. All you have to do is make some cookies or buy readymade ones and decorate them with white icing. Once the icing is set add some detail with red icing for the bloodshot eye look and black for the pupils. If you think that your decorating skills may not be up to scratch then why not just use the black icing to draw a spider onto the cookie instead.

Another great treat is icing eye balls. You can buy readymade icing and roll it into balls. Use either food coloring or pen icing to put the pupil on and create a bloodshot effect.

Cupcakes are also an easy yet spooky treat. Make up the cupcakes or buy them from your local store. If baking, make sure that the cupcakes are completely cool before decorating. Once they are cool you can decorate them however you like. You can ice them with different colored icing to create different effects. For example you can make them into mini pumpkins with some orange icing and green jelly beans. Or how about a scary skull? Be creative and use different candies to decorate your cakes. Always remember to check with the trick or treaters if they have any allergies!

For a healthy alternative you can try some gruesome teeth. You will need an apple and some slivered almonds. Cut the apple in half lengthways. De-core the apple and cut a wedge out of the skinned side of the apple. Cut the almonds so they resemble teeth. Stick the almonds in the wedge at the top and the bottom so that it looks like a mouth with teeth!

Now that you have some ideas for some great treats you too can get into the spirit of things by making your own homemade Halloween treats.
