Begin a Nature Journal
Every week, set aside at least 30 minutes to seclude yourself, go outside, and observe nature. It can be so relaxing to just sit and watch the birds dance in the sky or the activity buzzing around on the ground. Instead of using the journal to write about your life and what's going wrong, use the journal to write about what you see around you- the beauty of nature. This way you can keep your thoughts positive. You can press a few leaves or sketch a flower. The choice is yours, just sit in nature and unwind.
Run a Bubble Bath
Baths are one of the best ways to relax. The hot water relieves stress in your muscles while the solidarity of being alone in your bathroom is so peaceful. Light a few candles, play some calming music such as Madeleine Peyroux (you can download some off of Limewire), and exfoliate with some sugar. The candles and music will set the mood for relaxation while the sugar will leave your skin silky smooth.
Stretch!
A lot of the stress we encounter everyday gets trapped in our muscles, this is why stretching exercise routines such as Yoga and Pilates have gained such popularity. But you don't have to pay for a Yoga video or sign up for a Pilates class. Just stretch! Stand up, bend over, and try to touch your toes. If you can't reach them, just hang there and let gravity pull your hands toward the ground. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even look up some yoga poses online and try to imitate them. Go ahead and stretch and rejuvenate.
Be artistic
You don't have to be amazing at what you do to enjoy doing it. Write poetry, paint a picture or sketch something. Remember, the activity is for your relaxation and enjoyment, no one else's. This is your chance to get inspired and have fun!
Relaxing doesn't have to cost a lot, you don't have to pay for a massage or go buy aromatherapy candles. Everything you need to unwind can be found at home or right outside the door in nature. Spending money is not the key to relaxation, simplicity is.
