How to Upcycle DVDs into Picture Frames and Christmas Ornaments

Pam Parent
There are so many creative ways to upcycle old DVDs you're not using. Upcycling DVDs into a bear picture frame is a cute way to display your favorite picture. If you need stunning Christmas ornaments for your tree or to hang across the mantle, upcycle your DVDs into decorations.

DVD Bear Picture Frame

Supplies:
Old DVD
Glue gun and glue sticks
5 1/2 to 6" jointed bear
Clear report cover
Scissors
1/2 yard check ribbon
Marker

Directions:

1. Trace the DVD on the clear report cover, then cut it out.

2. Glue the sides and bottom of the clear vinyl circle to the front of the DVD. Make sure to glue it on the side that doesn't have any writing or pictures. Keep the top of the circle open, this is where you will slide the picture in.

3. Put the bear in the sitting position. Glue the DVD to the bear's hand. You can add a little glue to the bear's stomach, then gently press the back of the DVD into the stomach to help secure it.

4. Make two small bows from the check ribbon. Glue one bow to the top, front of the bear's head. Glue the other bow to the top, front of the DVD.

5. Slide the picture inside the opening of the picture frame. Wallet sized pictures are a perfect fit for the DVD picture frame. Regular sized pictures can be trimmed around the edges to fit inside the frame.

These picture frames are a great gift for the bear collector. The DVD frames also look good in a nursery, and make a great baby shower gift.

DVD Christmas Ornament

Supplies:
Old DVD
Glue gun and glue sticks
1 yard of thin Christmas ribbon
Pine cone
Eucalyptus
Holiday dried florals

Directions:

1. Slide the Christmas ribbon throughout the DVD hole. Tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow at the top of the DVD. This will be the ornament hanger. Also, make sure when decorating the DVD the blank side is facing you.

2. Glue the pine cone to the ribbon at the top of the DVD ribbon. Glue eucalyptus on the ribbon at the top of the DVD.

3. Evenly glue the holiday dried florals throughout the pine cones and eucalyptus on the Christmas ribbon at the top of the DVD.

4. This next step is best done in sections. Place glue on the first section of the DVD, then sprinkle with faux snow. Let dry. Repeat this step until the DVD is completely covered with faux snow. Gently shake ornament to remove excess snow.

These ornaments look stunning on a Christmas tree, wreath, or hung on a garland wrapped around a banister. You can also use these DVD Christmas ornaments to decorate holiday packages.
