How to Upgrade Your Bathroom Without Remodelling

Cheap Tricks to Improve Your Bathroom Experience Without a Lot of Work!

Suzanne Rose
The one thing I would love to remodel in my house is the bathroom. It has many issues that have frustrated me since I bought my house. Since I can't afford to remodel my entire bathroom right now, I've learned many cheap tricks that improve my bathroom experience quickly and easily.

Do you have a Shallow Bath Tub that makes Bubble Baths impossible?
I could buy a deeper tub, then tear out my old tub and replace it, but that would cost a lot of money, work and time! Not to mention I'd have to hire someone to do it. Instead, a cheap trick to improve the amount of water in your tub is to buy a product such as this Deep Water Bath Overflow Cover from Amazon. This easy to use product snaps on to your tub with suction cups, covering the overflow holes, so that you can fill your tub with up to 60% more water! Anyone with a shallow tub like mine knows that you can't take a good bubble bath because most of the water goes out through the overflow cover. Now with this product, I can take an acceptable bubble bath without buying a brand new tub. Total Cost: $10 each

Long Hair clogging your Tub?

Another thing I did not like about my tub from the start was the drain. It was a pop-up drain which meant that anytime I washed my hair, strand after strand would go straight down the drain with nothing to stop it. I was using Draino monthly to clear up the clogs. I could have gotten a plumber in there to install a better drain, but instead I found the Stop A Clog Drain Protector from Amazon. This great product works with suction cups also and snaps around your drain. At least 90% of my hair seems to get stopped by this drain protector. When I am done showering, I am able to pick up all my hair in one swoop, unsnap the Stop A Clog and rinse it off for future use. It's that simple! Total Cost: $7 for set of 2

Need more Elbow Room?
Whether you are tall or you are short, if you have a skinny bathtub you may feel cramped when you are showering. You could go out and buy a bigger wider bathtub, or you could instead buy a Dual Curved Shower Rod from Brookstone. This shower rod actually curves outward giving you more room to stretch your elbows while you wash your hair and shower. It may not actually make your tub wider, but it will make you feel like you have more space while you shower and improve your experience. Total Cost: $50

Need a place to set your Shampoo?

My tub had absolutely no shelves when I moved in. There was only a small soap dish that was very low to the ground. I could have gotten a whole new bathtub set up with those walls that have pre-built shelves, but instead I got a Satin Nickel Shower and Tub Caddy from Bed Bath and Beyond to solve all my troubles. This product is easy to assemble and adjusts to fit in most any bathtub. The extra shelving is actually MORE than many pre-built tubs have in them giving me plenty of space for everything I need while I'm in the shower. If you don't like this one, there are many different Shower and Tub Caddies for sale at Bed Bath and Beyond or Amazon. Take a look and I'm sure you'll find one to improve your tub. Total Cost: $40 each

Do you wish you had Jets in your Tub?

Anyone who's ever been able to enjoy a tub that has jets dreams of the day they can own one of their own! A tub with jets can really help to ease aches and pains after a long day of work or exercise. Once again, you could tear out your whole bathtub and get a new more expensive one with jets, but if you are looking for a cheaper way to get a similar experience, check out the Thermal Spa Mat from Amazon. I bought something similar for my mom years ago and she uses it whenever she feels extra achy. This mat may not be the same as having an expensive tub, but it does give you much of the same bubble power that helps to ease your aches away! There are many varieties of Spa Mat's available so you can go as cheap or as expensive as you want. Regardless of what you choose, it will definitely be cheaper than purchasing a whole new bathtub. Total Cost: $160 each

Do you need more Cabinet Space?
Our bathroom was also lacking on cabinet space when we first moved in. After a few years of dealing with no where to put anything, we decided it was time for an improvement. We could have hired a contractor to build us cabinets on the walls, but instead we purchased a Space Saver and Floor Cabinet from JC Penny. These items were easy to put together and place into my bathroom giving us tons of extra space. Now we have room for all of our extra lotions, shampoos, medicine and more! There is a large variety of bathroom furniture available at stores like JC Penny, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond that will add storage to your bathroom without a total remodel. Total Cost: $170 for set

Need even More Simple Improvements?
There are tons of other things you can do to your bathroom to make your experience more enjoyable without breaking your wallet. For example, you can buy a Spa Pillow to rest your head on while you take a bubble bath. Or how about a reading tray to hold your book so you can read without getting the book wet! Before investing in a complete bathroom remodel, try these simple and cheap improvements first. You may find that you can live with your current bathroom for years longer than you ever expected. Enjoy!!

I may have to start remodeling today. I like the jet idea and I may have to go look for one of those.

Super article. I'm passing it on to my husband because we could use every one of your ideas and there is no way we are redoing our bathroom, kitchen or any other room!
