How I Used the Cold Turkey Method to Quit Smoking

Qutting Tobacco Can Be Difficult

I used to be a smoker, that smoked from 1 to 2 packs a day. I quit smoking years ago, and have quit about three different times.

When I was seventeen years old I started smoking cigarettes. My brand of cigarettes used to be "Marlboro". My favorite brand was "Newport" menthol. I smoked cigarettes up till I was twenty two years old.

Cigarettes was not my only thing I smoked. I used to smoke weed with it. You might have heard that weed is a gateway drug. Cocaine was getting introduced into my circle. It was for that reason that I made the decision to quit smoking everything.

Before the cocaine night, I had winged myself down to 3 or 4 cigarettes a day. It was kind of a pleasure for me, to have a pack of cigarettes last three days. It also made the cigarettes better to me.

I want to note here, that I was living with my parents. And I had no bills to pay. This put me in a position to do what I have written in this article.

The 'cold turkey' method is quitting all at ounce. Just complete abstinence from the tobacco.

I decided to use the 'cold turkey' method. What I did was barricaded myself in my room. There was no way in or out, except for the use of my window. I stayed in my room playing games I got from the internet, and sleeping. I did not come out except at night, and that was to get some leftovers to eat.

It was a aggravating, and hard time for me. I don't know if the cocaine was worse than the cigarettes. I know I put some damage on the interior of my room. I sprayed paint on the walls. And I also knocked holes in them. It was not something where I just decided to tear up the room. It was something where the pain was so much, I would throw my cup into the wall. I practiced patience, and temperance during this time.

What got me through the addiction the best, was sleeping. When I would start feeling bad, I would lie down and close my eyes. Sleeping took off the edge. And even if I did not fall asleep, it helped me get through it.

After some time locked up in my room, I started noticed that the pain was easing off. Day by day, I noticed I was not feeling as edgy.

I stayed in my room for about 2 to 3 months before I came out. I still had what I will call, edgy moments. Sometimes I would feel the addition hitting me, but it would ease back off.

Today I feel fine, and I don't care about having cigarettes. Second hand smoke is a problem for me, because I get my addition back from second hand smoke. When that happens, the addiction pain is gone with in two weeks. The temptation to get a pack of cigarettes comes on me. But I know that getting cigarettes will make my problem worse, then not smoking. Not smoking is my solution to stopping the addiction, and smoking will make it worse.

I give God the praise, glory and honor for getting me off, and keeping me off tobacco. I know I was not under his grace during the time written in this article. But I believe he had compassion on me, even when I was in my wicked and evil state. Its written that God gives rain and sunshine on the wicked and evil, along with the just.

Going through addiction puts stress on your body. That is something that needs to be done under supervision of a doctor. People die from the addiction of drugs. The stress can be to much for your body. I only had the cocaine ounce. And there was no other addicting drug except the tobacco. I suggest that someone who knows what their doing, should be keeping up with you, like a doctor. It is a good idea to go to a rehabilitation center for help getting off of something. This article is only discussing getting off of tobacco.
