How to Vacation for Free by Swapping Your Home

Susan Brown
Probably, you were immediately attracted to this article because of those thousand dollar words: vacation for free. It's ok, because that's the same reason why I wrote this article... because I love to vacation and travel, but I hate how expensive even thinking about it can be! So, the things I have learned about how to vacation for free can be really wonderful, and here is one thing I would love to share with you.

First things first: If you are even considering taking advantage of the 'swap your home' idea, it would probably be a good idea to understand the simple fact that nobody wants to vacation somewhere where this is, well, nothing. What makes your town so special? Is it a place people would be attracted to vacation in? If you can reasonably answer yes, then we have a great start!

How long do people usually tend to want to "swap" homes for a vacation? It ranges from a weekend to as long as a year. And sometimes, it can even be more. Are you prepared for that during this "swap"? Of course, before making any agreements, you want to be sure that you can stay out of your home for that long! It's a good idea to specify how long your home is available, or vice versa - when doing your search for a vacation home, search only for those that are available for the specific time you want to vacation.

When it comes to home swapping, your vacation options are virtually endless. Want to soak the sun up at a beach in Maui for a weekend? You're covered. Or, want to stay in Ireland for a year or more? You're covered there, too!

Something that makes residence swapping so great is all the added extras. I mean, think about it: depending on your price range, you are no doubt going to be surrounded by the most luxurious living: typically, finely furnished living spaces, beautiful scenery, etc. Also, no more worrying about whether you are putting your friends out by calling them up and asking to stay with them! And guess what else? The people that are staying in your home back home are taking care of your plants and pets for you! And on top of many other advantages comes this: if you are considering moving to that area, you can get a real feel for it before making that final decision.

Of course, now, there are cons to the whole house-swapping idea. What if you just don't like the home or the neighborhood you're staying in and would much rather be back home in your own house... especially if the stay is longer than a week? Or, what about any worries that come along with someone else staying in your house? What are they doing, are they really taking good care of it, etc. Those things need to be resolved in your own head before you can take on an adventure like this.

But if you are ready to take advantage of this awesome free-vacation lodging idea, jump right in and search it out on the internet. Some great sites include www.homeexchange.com and www.homelink.org. Check it out today!
