For example if your family loves camping and you have no money to go any where here is one idea for fun camping. Pack up all your camping gear and take it into your back yard and set it up. Have a theme for your camping. For example a Hawaiian vacation. Pretend you are going to Hawaii and place plastic or make some from paper mac-he palm trees around your yard. Give every everyone a Lei to wear. Play some Hawaiian music. You can even have a Hawaiian Luau . Build a spit and roast a pig. Rules on this vacation no one is to enter the house as you aren't at home. Make do with what you have as if you would do if really camping out.
Another inexpensive vacation ( will cost some ) is to go visit some museums for a few dollars it is well worth it. Then head off to a nice park for exploring the wilderness. Go on the hiking trails and pick some wild flowers. Look at your surroundings and enjoy the great outdoors and all that God has given us. Take the time to really enjoy the outdoors. Register a head of time for a cabin so when you are tired of hiking you can go back for a refreshing shower and play a game of chess or what ever game your family likes. The next day have a nice picnic and maybe go for a swim.
If you have some funds but not a lot and you have small children head off to a zoo. Even if you don't have small children this is a fun thing to do even for grown ups. Some zoo's even have picnic grounds where you can take your own picnic saving a lot on food. Some motels ( in our area ) will even give the whole family tickets to the zoo and children's zoo for 2 nights stay. This is a huge savings as well. Plus kids eat breakfast free. Check around in your home town
If you look around in your town I'm betting there is a lot of free things to do. Or perhaps a short distance away from your town.Look for coupons and don't be afraid to use them they can save you a bundle on food and lodgings.
If you live in or around the St Louis area there is lots to see and do for free there. Grants Farm is free and very educational for children as well as adults. There is the "Magic House" that is an interactive museum. It used to be free I'm not sure if it still is.The children's museum over there is fantastic for a small fee. Well worth the fee. 3 Floors of entertainment.
Just let your imagination run wild and let the kids in on planning something special. It is fun to see what every one can come up with for little or no money. Best of all you are spending quality time together as a family. Relax and enjoy your self.
Spending a few days in a park fishing while the kids run around is also an option.Hiking, picnicking, fishing, swimming, and a lot more to do and its almost free.
