How to Make a Valance Using Retro Vintage Aprons

This Retro Vintage Apron valance is a great addition to a retro kitchen, a vintage style family room, office, or even a room. I have about a million Retro Vintage Aprons. In desperation I came up with this easy to make Retro Vintage Apron valance for windows so I can display them as much as possible. My favorite feature about this Retro Vintage Apron window treatment is that you can easily interchange your Retro Vintage Aprons simply by reaching up there and grabbing an apron down!

To Make a Retro Vintage Apron Valance You Will Need:

Retro Vintage Apron s (Lots of them)

One 2X10 cut to fit your window

Screw in teacup hooks (one for each hat)

Primer

Paint

Paint Brush Sand Paper

L Brackets Power Drill

Screws

Wood filler

Now, the first step is to measure how wide your individual window is. I like to make this Retro Vintage Apron valance stick out about 5 to 6 inches on either side, but that is up to you. You will also need two pieces of this same board cut to about 4 to 5 inches wide. These will be the sides of your valance.

Now, Screw in through the front ends of your long board and attach your two sidepieces of the Retro Vintage Apron valance. I like to predrill these holes and then put in my screws so that the boards do not split.

Now, sand your entire wood valance lightly.

Paint on a coat of primer, like Kilz.

Let the primer dry, then paint on a coat of your vintage inspired milk paint. I like to paint this valance because you will be able to see it behind your Retro Vintage Aprons. This is a good time to introduce an accent color into your room. You could also paint this board the same color as your walls if you have any leftover wall paint.

Now, let that paint dry.

Measure across your board with your tape measure. Make a small dot about every 1 to 2 inches. You could get away with a dot every 3 inches as well. You need to be consistent because you want you Retro Vintage Aprons to be spaced evenly. If you are worried about how many Retro Vintage Apron will fit onto the valance, then start making the dots in the middle of the valance and work your way out left and right until you reach each end.

Now, these dots should be about 1 to 2 inches down from the top edge of the board.

Use your power drill to predrill hole halfway through the board. Then screw in your teacup hooks. I find screw in teacup hooks for about $1 for a 2 pack at the hardware store all the time.

Now, you can paint out your teacup hooks to match your board if you want, but that is up to you. You could also spray them in a hammered metal spray paint as well; just do either one of these before you screw them in to the valance.

Now, use your L brackets to hang the Retro Vintage Apron valance on the wall. I like to put one L bracket on the left end of the valance and one on the right end of the valance They should be placed on the inside of the side wood pieces. Try to screw into a wood stud if at all possible.

Now, you can load up the valance with Retro Vintage Apron.

Tie the sashes in a bow; just like you would if you were wearing them, them hang them on the hooks.

Do this for every window in your room and you can really display quite a Retro Vintage Apron collection.

You can also hang curtains from inside of this Retro Vintage Apron valance by using a tension rod inside of it. The wood sides of the valance will easily support the tension rod.
