How to Make a Valentine Bouquet for Mommy-to-Be

Make a Sock Bouquet

S Faloon
Rose bouquets and boxes of chocolates are special gifts for your sweetheart that last for a few days. Surprise an expectant mommy-to-be with a long-lasting bouquet that is made of baby sock roses this Valentine's Day. The faux bouquet can be assembled in a bud vase or a full-size floral arrangement. Hand-shape sock roses from newborn socks that the new parents will be able to use for the baby. Add small items to the arrangement that the mother will find useful when caring for her newborn.

Consider announcing a pregnancy by delivering this arrangement to the grandparents for a joyful Valentine's Day surprise.

Materials Needed:
Newborn to infant socks
Florist wire
Wire cutters
Floral tape
Silk leaves
Container
Craft foam
Baby rattle or toy
Bamboo skewer
Ribbon bow

Sock Rose Instructions

Cut a 9-inch piece of florist wire with wire cutters. Place the wire on your work table.

Lay a baby sock on the table. Roll the toe of the sock in a tight coil toward the heel.

Carefully slide one end of the wire into the coil from the bottom end. Fold the remainder of the sock over the coil.

Wrap the bottom of the sock rose with the floral tape. The tape sticks to itself only when you pull it tightly. It has no adhesive on it.

Continue to wrap the tape down the wire for an inch or two. Tape a silk leaf to the wire using the same wrapping method.

Floral Arrangement

Make three to six sock roses for a bud vase floral bouquet or a dozen for a full floral arrangement.

Place a piece of craft foam into the bottom of a ceramic baby floral dish, basket or container. Insert stems of silk leaves into the foam. to cover it. Insert a sock rose into the center of the foam. Add more roses around the center rose placing them into the foam at a slight outward angle.

Wrap floral tape around the handle of a baby rattle or the leg of a toy to secure it to a bamboo skewer. Insert the skewer into the arrangement.

Bud Vase

Place the tallest sock rose into the bud vase. Add two to five more shorter rose stems into the vase. Tie a ribbon bow to around the neck of the vase. Add a baby rattle that is secured to a skewer to the vase if desired.

This sounds so easy to do. I like it. My daughter made a cake out of diapers once, it was really cute.
