How to Make a Valentine's Day Card with 'Floating' Foam Hearts (Suitable for Children)
An Adorable Valentine or Anytime Craft for Children to Make
This is a really cute idea for children to receive as well as to make. Younger children will probably find this too challenging, but older aged kids should have no issues making it. This could also be easily adapted for a scrap book layout for those who would rather use that option.
Instructions:
1. Take your cardstock (or card material) and cut your scrap book paper background to fit the card's edges. Set the cardstock aside for now.
2. Take your cut piece of scrap book paper and trace a heart on the back. You might find using a stencil helpful in getting the shape and size just right.
3. Cut out the heart carefully as you will be using both the inside and outside of the heart in the card.
4. Take your cutout heart and tape to the middle of the card. (Use the outer 'frame' to aid in the positioning of the heart.) (See Diagram)
5. Now, take your red and white foam sheets and cut out a handful of hearts of different sizes. I believe I had around 10 hearts in mine in two different sizes.)
6. Put your hearts inside of the Ziplock bag and trim the top and sides as needed to fit the card. Tape the bag on all sides down over the paper heart on the card. (See Diagram)
7. Place tape (or mounting squares) to the backside of the heart 'frame' (This is the outside of the page you cut the heart from.) Also make sure that you put some mounting squares around the outside of the heart cutout (This assures that the foam hearts cant slip under the layers as easily.) Stick this over the card and match it up against the heart on the card making sure that the pattern matches up. Press frame edge down all around the card.
8. Use your die cuts or stickers and decorate as desired. (See Diagram)
9. You are all finished! Now give your card to that special someone you love!
Supplies:
- Cardstock, construction paper or any suitable material for the card. (I used old Hallmark card contest entry cards for mine.)
- Scrap book paper (You may also use wrapping paper and any paper that has a pleasing pattern on it.)
- Tape
- Scissors
- Red and White Craft Foam (I used 2mm thick foam)
- Clear Mounting Squares (These are found in the Scrap book dept of most stores.)
- Scrapbook die cuts (or stickers) for decoration
- Ziplock bag
