How to Verify a SIP Codec as a File is Being Played
Know Which Codec a Media-based File is Using to Lower the Error Message Return Rate
Determine What Codecs Are Used By a File
1. Start Windows Media Player and then play a file.
2. Right-click the file in the library while it is playing.
3. Click "Properties," click the "File" tab, and then review the "Audio codec" and "Video codec" sections for a list of codecs used to compress the file.
Determine Which Types of Codecs Are Installed on Your Computer
1. Connect your computer to the Internet and then Start Windows Media Player.
2. Click "Help" and then click "About Windows Media Player." (Note: Click "Organize" navigate to "Layout" and then select "Show menu bar" if the Help menu is not displayed.)
3. Click "Technical Support Information" on the "About Windows Media Player" dialog box to open a web page with information about codecs, filters, services, plug-ins, binary files installed on your computer.
Be sure to back up your computer and set a restore point before you download and install a codec. If you download a codec from an untrustworthy source, your computer operating system can become corrupted. Visit the component manufacturer's website for compatible codecs, when needed.
(Note: You must have Windows 7 and Windows Media Player installed to apply these steps.)
