How to Make a Victorian Beaded Watch

Pam Parent
A Victorian beaded watch makes an exquisite piece to add to your jewelry or watch collection. This watch also makes a beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry gift. When making the Victorian beaded watch, remember it should have the fit of a bracelet, and will naturally be loose-fitting. If you don't want a loose-fitting watch, shorten the length of the wire used to bead the Victorian watch band.

Victorian Beaded Watch

Supplies:

Victorian watch face
Accu-Flex wire (silver plated)
Victorian antique clasp hook
Jewelry glue
Tweezers
Scissors
Tape measure
6 mm ivory pearl beads
6 mm Swarovski gold bicone beads
6 mm Swarovski burgundy bicone beads

Directions:

1. Measure and cut two 10 inch pieces from the jewelry wire, or cut smaller pieces for a tighter fit. This measurement is for a standard sized wrist. If you have a smaller or larger wrist, measure your wrist with a tape measure. Add a couple of inches to the measurement number for a tight-fitting watch, or add approximately four inches for a loose-fitting watch.

2. Divide beads into three sections. Organizing the beads will make the Victorian beaded watch easier to assemble. I use an old egg carton to keep beads and supplies organized. It is free, functional, and a great way to recycle.

3. Tie one end of the wire to the loop at the end of the Victorian watch face. Pick up beads with the tweezers or by hand, whichever you prefer. Slide on two burgundy beads, two gold beads, and then two pearl beads. Repeat this bead pattern until you reach the end of the wire. Tie the end of this wire to one end of the Victorian clasp. Make another knot, then trim ends. Add a touch of jewelry glue on the tied knot for added security.

4. Tie the second piece of jewelry wire to the other end of the Victorian watch face. Repeat the beading pattern until you reach the end of the wire. Tie the wire to the other end of the Victorian clasp. Make another knot, then trim the ends of the wire. Add jewelry glue to the knots for added security. Also, add jewelry glue to beginning knots at the base of the Victorian watch face.

This Victorian beaded watch also looks beautiful with all pink beads and pearls. The beading pattern can also be changed to alternating the three bead choices throughout the wire, instead of two of each bead as the pattern choice. I have also made this watch with two strands of beading for the watch band, which gives the Victorian watch a bolder look. The versatility of design is endless for the making of the Victorian beaded watch.

The website www.firemountaingems.com offers all the beads and supplies needed to make the watch. They offer a Victorian watch face that is the perfect choice for this Victorian beaded watch craft project.
