How to Use Vintage Paper Dolls to Make Art

Vintage paper dolls have a unique look. They are colorful and expressive, and fun to use in various art projects. Artists often use paper dolls in collage form, for the paper can be glued onto canvas board in a mixed medium style. Paint can be applied around the paper dolls, to give the appearance of a painting. A layer of clear glue or varnish can be added over the paper dolls, to seal the painting. The varnish can be glossy, to deepen the color of the paint and to make the color on faded paper dolls crisp.

Use compound paper glue to apply collages to canvas board. Buy the glue at paper supply companies, or order online. The glue comes in large quantities, and is quite inexpensive. The glue also sticks extremely well. Once the paper dolls are glued into place, paint around the dolls to create a background.
