One way websites are getting successful today is they focus on creating "viral" media. viral content is content that users want to share. It can be an interesting story, and addicting or fun flash game, an amusing video, or any other content that seems "essential".
The Web has changed dramatically since it started back in the 70s. Websites today are very much made to pass content around. If I like someone's blog entry, I can post reply on my blog that links back to the original blog... all very quickly and easily. If I like a particular piece of content, I can bookmark it on delicious.com and all of my "friends" ( or people who have subscribed to my content) can see this new link.
In other words, we want to create content that is easily spreadable. Why do we do this? Well, this means our users will do our marketing for us! Exactly like how word-of-mouth marketing works in the real world.
Viral marketing is typically low cost and a great tool for any company to utilize. One way to get started in viral marketing is to make sure you attach a "Tell A Friend Script" to every content creation you make.
The purpose of this script is so that a person who likes your content can easily spread it to all the various social media websites. In one form of this script, the person has to input their name e-mail address and recipient e-mail address. Then they click on a button, and the content is e-mailed to their friend.
The great thing about this is that because the e-mail recipient trusts the friend, they will read our content (or more specifically, our marketing message.) it helps eliminate the chances of our marketing message being blocked because the message is coming from a trusted sender.
The important thing with any of these scripts is that we make sure our content is linked back to our website. Therefore if our content is good, the person receiving the link might be more interested in our company and products.
Tell-a-friend scripts are very simple, and you don't need to learn any programming. Typically they are made of a code called javascrypt, and all you need to do is cut and paste a segment of code to go along with any of your content posts on a blog or news-oriented website.
One way to learn about these scripts is to visit a popular blog and look for a button that says "share this". View the code of this webpage to discover what you need to put in your blog to help make your post viral.
When his users who are doing your marketing for you, you can spend a lot more of your time doing what you do best - making money. Once again, the key to creating viral content is to create something useful as well as entertaining.
