How to Wake Up with Curly Hair

Phantom Rose
Have you always admired curly hair and wished that you could make your hair curly? Lots of people have but not all of us can afford to perm our hair every few months, and others of us don't have the time or the patience to take a curling iron to our hair every morning. So how can you get curly hair without having to do either one of these things? There is a way, and here's what it is and how you do it.

Sleep in hair rollers. Now when I say this, you're probably thinking, "That doesn't work," or "That's not new information." However, when I say you should sleep in hair rollers, I'm not suggesting to sleep in hair rollers and wake up with a 50s style hairdo. This method involves a technique that is completely different and will provide you with completely different results from the traditional ones of sleeping in hair rollers. With this technique, you will wake up with hair that looks like it has been permed. The secret is how you apply the hair rollers.

First, you will need a couple of packages of hair rollers. You can get these at Wal-Mart for about a dollar a package. How many you will need depends upon the thickness and length of your hair. You can get any size rollers you want, depending upon how large or small you would like your curls. However, they all will produce about the same results. I suggest the soft, green rollers. They are about the size of a nickel or quarter around and are what I always used.

Next, you will need a bottle of curly spray gel, standard gel or mousse, etc. As long as it is a product that helps curl your hair, you're good to go. I like Aussie's Scrunch Spray and V05's Curvaceous Curls. You will also need a bottle of hair spray. Again, your choice. A cheap bottle of Rave works fine.

Now you're ready to curl your hair. First, shampoo and condition your hair. The conditioner is optional. However, I always like to condition my hair, but that's your preference.

Next towel dry your hair just a bit so that it is still damp but not soaking wet. Take a drop of gel or mousse and apply it to your hair generously, especially the ends. It is important to completely cover all of your hair with curl gel because this is what helps curl your hair. Then comb it through to make sure that you have some all over your hair.

Now you can start rolling. Roll your hair up in sections until you have all of your hair up in rollers. You don't have to be too picky about this. You don't necessarily have to roll your hair up in tiny strands. In fact, I always fitted as much hair on one roller as I could. If you have really thick, long hair like I did you'll use between twenty and thirty rollers, sometimes more, sometimes less. This only takes about ten minutes.

Once you've got all of your hair up in rollers, lightly spray it with hair spray just to ensure that the curls hold. This isn't exactly a necessity, however. I have omitted this step before and still had very curly hair the next morning.

Now you simply go to bed and let your hair dry in the curlers overnight while you sleep. I would like to note, however, that if your hair dries slowly because it's thick or long, you might want to hit your hair with a hair dryer once you've gotten the rollers in and set. I used to just blow dry mine for about five or ten minutes before I went to bed.

When you get up, simply undo the rollers and you will be pleasantly surprised at the results. Your hair will be curlier than you would have ever imagined. The secret is the procedure I outlined above-to apply curling serum to your hair while it is still damp, roll it up in rollers, and let it dry into curls. And voila, you will have curly hair for a day for very little cost. Simply style your hair however you want once you remove the rollers. You can leave it down, pull some of it back, etc. Spray it with a bit of hair spray to hold the look, and your curls really will hold all day long. In fact, they'll stay until the next time you wash your hair. Trust me, people at your workplace or school will be asking you if you've just gotten a perm!
