How to Make a Wall Art CD Case Shadow Box

Green Art

These shadow boxes can be a great way to recycle and go green, fun way to preserve small treasures that collect in drawers. Items you don't want to get rid of but are too small to display in other ways. Cute for school lockers, college dorm rooms, or wall displays.

First, gather all trinkets, paper, and supplies.
Collect empty CD cases. Pop out the plastic insert that holds the CD in.
Cut paper. 4 ¾ inch by 4 ¾ inch. I prefer card stock scrapbooking paper. Magazine papers can be fun to use also. With thinner paper I like to glue to card stock to make it sturdier.

Fun part: Add trinkets to the square of paper. Use coins, stickers, movie tickets, photographs, buttons, scrapbooking items, charms, guitar picks, poetic word magnets to make phrases, stamps, gift cards, dog tags, anything smaller than ¼ of an inch in width.

I like to make theme boxes with related items. On one I used concert tickets, then a button with the band logo, magnetic poetry words to add phrases. Others could be vacation themed, or job themed using name tags and other items.
Once you decide on the items and where they go, attaching them can be tricky
Glue dots are really great. They are small and very sticky. You can purchase them at craft stores like Michael's and Robert's between $3 to $6 depending on the size of the product. Glue sticks, tape, and staples also work. You can also use cute scrapbooking paper fasteners. You can purchase them at www.creativeimpressions.com. Basic round fasteners in multi colors are $3 for a hundred. At this particular web site there is a $10 minimum purchase and a $5 shipping fee.
When the display is finished, I like to tape the three sides so the case won't open, but it's easy to remove if you need to open or fix something.
When they are ready to attach the wall, my preferred choice is Velcro squares you can purchase at craft stores for a few dollars. Velcro allows displays to be easily changed and rotated. Another method is to use magnets to attach to metal school lockers.

Attaching to the wall: You can line them up so they are touching. I like to put a 2-inch space between squares. I like to arrange them in squares 3 by 3, or 5 by 5.
These can be cute and fun displays for rooms or school lockers. They can be made from things you already have. It's an inexpensive craft project that is fun, easy, and quick to make-a great fun way to go green. Please recycle.

What a fun idea. I wondered what to do with all those CD cases. Recycle!
