How to Make Wallpaper Paste: This wallpaper paste is a good paste to use for making strip paper mache crafts and for other projects that require a large amount of paste. You can use this wallpaper paste to cover large objects such as lamp shades, waste baskets, etc. You can use paper, wallpaper or even fabric scraps as the covering in your craft projects. This wallpaper paste is as fun to make as it is to use and you will save money by making your own. This recipe makes about 1+1/2 gallons of wallpaper paste. That's a lot of paste!

Step 1: Gather the following ingredients to make wallpaper paste: 4 cups wheat flour (not self rising), 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 gallon warm water, 1 quart cold water, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon oil to act as a preservative.

Step 2: Mix the flour and the sugar in a large saucepan.

Step 3: Add a little warm water to the flour and sugar and stir. Add enough warm water to make a smooth paste.

Step 4: Add the rest of the warm water slowly to the paste and stir vigorously to break any lumps.

Step 5: Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook until thick and clear.

Step 6: Thin the wallpaper paste with about 1 quart of cold water until you get the desired consistency.

Step 7: Add the cinnamon oil if you are not going to use the paint right away. If using right away, you do not need the cinnamon oil.

Step 8: Store the wallpaper paste in a covered container. Do not refrigerate. It will last several days if you add the cinnamon oil.
