How to Make a Warm and Cozy No-Sew Fleece Blanket

Making a blanket has never been so easy. These no-sew fleece blankets can be created in a short amount of time and require very minimal skills. Measuring, cutting and tying are the extent of the skills necessary for this project. Polar fleece is a dense pile fabric that is very soft and it provides a great deal of warmth, making it ideal for blanket use. The materials you will need for your no-sew fleece blanket are: polar fleece fabric in solid (back) and print (front), (the yardage will depend on the size blanket you plan to make). A tape measure, tailors chalk, scissors, straight pins and a 4"x4" cardboard square.

To make your no-sew fleece blanket you will need a flat firm surface to work on. Lay the fleece that is intended for the back side down first, than smooth out the fabric until it is nice and flat. Place the second fabric on top of the bottom fabric with the pattern facing you. Smooth it out until it lays flat. Place a straight pin approx. 5 inches in from the edge of the fabric through both layers, repeat approx.every four inches, just enough to hold the two fabrics together. Measure the width and length of the blanket to your specifications and mark, cut evenly through both layers of fleece to even out your blanket. Now that the fabric is even all the way around, place the 4" card board in one corner, while holding it firmly in place trace around it. Follow the same step on the 3 remaining corners. Now cut out each 4"x4" section from all four corners (through both layers). Cut a fringe around the fabrics that is 4 inches deep and 1 inch apart. Double knot the top fringe with the fringe underneath from the bottom layer. While tying the fringe together, do not pull the fabric too tight or it will stretch. Remove all of the straight pins. Your soft and cozy no-sew fleece blanket is finished.

Caring for your blanket is an easy task. Fleece fabric is polyester so it can be placed in the washer, using warm water on a normal cycle. Dry on a warm or fluff dry cycle.

Hint: You can make a matching pillow if you have left over fleece from your project. Following the techniques used for making the blanket. Use a pillow form that is several inches smaller than the two pieces of fleece.Tie three sides of the fleece fabric together. Slip the pillow form inside, then tie the fourth side together.
