Alpaca scarves are beautiful and not cheap. Perhaps you received one as a gift or splurged and treated yourself to a an alpaca wool scarf or 2 over the years. Eventually your alpaca scarves will need to be washed and don't make the mistake of throwing them in the washing machine or even worse, in th dryer. Both of these steps can potentially ruin your treasured alpaca scarves.

Follow these simple steps to wash and dry your alpaca scarves.

1. Clean and dry the sink you will be hand washing in.

2. Have some available counter space next to your sink to have a white clean terry cloth towel to pat out excess water.

3. Run warm water into sink and add a little gentle shampoo as freshner/detergent to wash you alpaca scarf.

4. Place scarf in water and swish it gently around with your hands making sure the clean soapy water fully washes the scarf.

5. After a few minutes of hand washing, turn on the arm water and let the dirty water drain as you run the clean water over the scarf to rinse it.

6. Do NOT wring or twist the alpaca scarf to squeeze out the water. Instead fold the scarf and press out the water. When much of the water is released then take the scarf and fold it and place inside a large white terry cloth towel and fold the towel in half and half again and pat and extract additional water.

7. Hang the scarf to dry over the shower curtain rod and leave a towel below it to catch any excess water drips.

Special Notes:
It is important to hand wash the scarves separately because the scarves have varying degrees of dye in them and dye could run into the water. You wouldn't want navy blue dye to ruin your light colored scarf.

Enjoy wearing your freshly laundered alpaca wool scarf!

  • It is important not to wring or twist the scarf or it will distort the natural shape and fibers
  • Do not wash scarves together because dyes will mix
  • You don't need to buy special detergent when gentle shampoo does the trick
Alpacas look like llamas but they are much smaller in size.
