How to Wash Your Child's Favorite Stuffed Animal or Doll

V. L. Hamlin
Just about every kid has one...the dreaded "baby doll" that they just can't leave the house without. Yet, every time you go somewhere, you cringe in humiliation and embarrassment because the stuffed animal or doll is just so dirty and gross. You wish so badly that you could figure out a way to get the doll clean, but know it's impossible to put it in the washing machine for a quick "whirlpool" bath because there are threads hanging from everywhere and you are just sure it will fall apart.

Fear no more! I've got a really simple solution for you! Let your son or daughter wash his/her own doll! They will enjoy "giving their baby a bath" and you will love not having to bring a filthy doll everywhere with you!

You will only need the following items:

Baking Soda

Warm Water

A bowl or a bucket large enough to fit the animal or doll into (If the stuffed animal or doll is too large, you might want to do this outside when it's warm)

Toothbrush (old)

Towels

PLEASE NOTE: It is probably best to do this in the early morning to allow drying time before bed!

Pour warm water into the bowl or bucket, then sprinkle several tablespoons of baking soda in the water and stir until all the baking soda is dissolved. Place a towel (or several towels) on the floor in your kitchen and then give your child the bowl full of the baking soda mixture and have him/her place their stuffed animal or doll in the water and scrub with the old toothbrush until all the dirty spots are gone.

At this point, don't worry about the mess! It's only water and baking soda, so guess what, you get a clean floor out of the deal too! Allow your child to "give her baby a bath" for as long as she would like or until baby is clean. This will be so much fun for your child to do, they'll want to do it all the time, so you will never be embarrassed about his/her doll again!

After he/she is done giving the doll a bath, just pull out your mop and clean up the water. By now the baking soda mixture will have scrubbed your floor clean, so there is no need to pull out the floor cleaner!

Finally, place the doll or stuffed animal on a clean dry towel and allow to dry for several hours.

Oh that's a great idea! I never though of adding vinegar too it...Baking Soda and vinegar mixed always makes me think of making volcanos in Science class...lol

Great article with an excellent and cute idea! I would recommend adding some vinegar, too as a disinfectant. :-)
