How to Watch Netflix Instant Viewing Movies on Your Tivo

Over the past year or so, Netflix has significantly added to the value of their DVD rental subscription plans by increasing the number of movies available for instant viewing via a live stream over the internet. At first, you could only watch these movies on a computer screen, but recently some Netflix Instant Viewing Enabled devices have come on the market that let Netflix members watch instant viewing movies right on their televisions. Last month, Tivo announced a deal with Netflix that allows Tivo subscribers to stream instant viewing movies to their TVs from their broadband connected Tivo boxes.

Not all Tivos will work with the Netflix service. In order to steam movies, you need a Series 3 Tivo, Tivo HD, or Tivo HD XL box. You can check to see which Tivo model you have from the "System Information" screen accessible from the Tivo Settings menu. If you have an eligible Tivo, you should see a Netflix option under the "Video On Demand" menu. First, you'll need to link your Netflix account with your Tivo by entering the special code in the menu on the Netflix website. Once you enter this code, your Netflix account and Tivo will be linked and you won't have to worry about it again.

Once everything is set up, watching movies is pretty seamless. You can add any of the Netflix instant viewing movies to your Instant Queue on the Netflix member site. As soon as you add a movie to your instant queue online, it will show up on the Netflix menu on Tivo. Now, whenever you want, you can begin streaming these movies to your television. the movies need to download a buffer for a few seconds bfore they start playing, and you'll also notice this pause for buffering if you fast forward or rewind. A slow internet connection can mean a lower quality picture, but most people with cable or DSL internet service should be able to get the highest quality stream available. The movies you watch via Tivo show up in your Netflix online history for easy reference, and you can remove movies from your Netflix Instant Queue right from your Tivo remote.

All in all, watching Netflix instant viewing movies on Tivo is a quick and easy process, and you'll find you value your Netflix membership even more with all the movies that are now available to watch anytime you want. The Netflix instant viewing service is available free to all Netflix members, and people on unlimited plans (which most customers are) can watch as many hours of movies as they want each month. So if you have a newer Tivo and are a member of Netflix, don't wait any longer. Head to the Netflix website to add some movies to your Instant Queue, and then be amazed as they are beamed over the internet, through your Tivo, and onto your television screen.
