How Do Water Bottles Affect Your Health and the Environment?

Which Water Bottles Are Safe?

Kaitlyn Joseph
Most of us have heard the staggering statistics about the amount of space that plastic water bottles take up in landfills. According to the Container Recycling Institute, 8 out of every 10 bottles end up in the garbage or a landfill. So, environmentally water bottles are certainly taking their toll.

Keeping in mind the plastic bottles are not helpful to the environment, some studies have also shown that they are not good for our health. Bisphenol A (BPA) has been found in plastic water bottles and is said to come out when the bottle is used. BPA can get into water even more if the bottle is heated. Some animals that have been tested with small doses of BPA have experienced some health problems. There is not any conclusive evidence that it will affect humans.

If you are concerned with the physical affects that it may potentially have on you, or if you want to limit your impact on the environment, then it's time to change water bottles. There are some alternatives that are considered safer. Keep in mind that these bottles will not only help keep you healthy but help save you money because you will not have to buy water bottles anymore.

Try a nalgene bottle. Some of these do have BPA in them but there are some that are made without them. It does not hurt to do a little research and find a bottle that works for you.

Have you tried a soft plastic bottle? These are BPA free for the most part. These bottles are not as rugged as a couple other bottles and they do degrade with heat. If you do not bang your bottle around a lot or throw it around then these should be fine for you.

BPA-free plastic bottles are new and improved. These are too new to be sure that they are the best health option but they do claim to be BPA-free. As time goes on, more reviews of these kinds of bottles should be available online.

Stainless steel bottles are a bit more rugged and should be safe. These bottles can take a beating and still keep your water safe.

There are options for people who want to try and stay healthy and help the environment. Make conscious decisions to change and we can all make a difference. Enjoy your water and have a great day!

I'm not sure. It's possiible from BPA but usually it just has bad effects like cancer or other health risks. I ave not read or seen anything about people dying from water bottles.
