How Waynedale, Indiana is Going Green!

Waynedale, Indiana might just be in line for a breath of fresh air ( no pun intended!) See, Waynedale isn't really a city or a town, but it used to be. Now it is just an afterthought to the Greater Fort Wayne Metropolitan area.

And it appears that the citizens of Waynedale are kind of tired of being the source of yawns and naps

A new movement, Waynedale Green Connect, is developing a new vision for Waynedale. Seeking out organizations that follow the greener living lifestyle, the organization is reaching out to non-profits like the Little Rivers Wetlands Project, Friends of the Parks of Allen County, and the Aboite Trails, Inc.

Waynedale Green envisions local sustainable co-op farming, carpooling, trails, and lots and lots of trees. Waynedale Green sees education as a vital first step in bringing the area into the 21st century.

How to accomplish all this?

Get local high schools involved, seasoned businesspersons, and local radio personalities. And hold an event "Waynedale Goes Green" at the local Waynedale Park that is in need of more than a few plants and flowers. Speakers will be asked to discuss subjects ranging from planting trees, to energy-saving tips, to composting.

George Webber and Mary Isenhour, owners of the Dragon's Keep Café are excited about the project and have thrown their full support behind the move. Along with a vote of confidence from Nick Harter, Executive Director of the Indiana Green Network.

Aboite Trails and the city of Fort Wayne were the beneficiaries of Oprah's Big Give, a sum that will enable the city of Fort Wayne to build more trails for alternative transportation and residential use.

But, what about Waynedale?

Waynedale is the home of over 6,000 residents and a multitude of businesses, primarily in the service sector. It is a small town within a semi-big city that used to be a small town - and it appears that citizens would like a face-lift.

Waynedale Green Connect is in the process of bringing the citizens of Waynedale together so that they can benefit from the economic necessity of sustainable living.

Until each and every person realizes that 'green' is more than just the next 'big thing' it's economic advantages will be overshadowed. Waynedale Green Connect seeks to change that perception, and bring the citizens of Waynedale, Indiana together in one place to solve the major challenges of our time. With gas hitting four dollars a gallon none of us can afford to wait for the next guy to take the bull by the horns.
