Getting a Hold on when Natural Disaster Strikes

We like to be prepared in this house. I am going to share our emergency kits with you, and how to get your hands on the goods we used to make sure we are safe when/if distaster strikes.

We have a waterproof/fireproof hand held safe we store the following in:

-The deed to our house
-Insurance cards
-Copies of identification cards
-Copy of car key and front car key
-Waterproof matches (Amazon.com)
-Pocket knife (Amazon.com)
-Sharpie Pens (Staples)
- Emergency Fire Starter (Amazon.com)
-Empty notebook (Staples)
-Phone cards (Corner Store)
-Small hand crank flashlight (Amazon.com/ Kikkerland Dynamo Solar and Crank Emergency Radio )
-Hand crank flashlight (Amazon.com/ Etón American Red Cross CLIPRAY USB Cell Phone Charger with Hand Crank LED Flashlight )

This kit is good for fires or floods as well as immediate evacuation.

Another kit we have is in plastic shoeboxes, found at the container store and labeled with a label maker. They are all stored in the same place in our home, by the main exit.

Long Term Kit:

-Portable grill
-Camping pots
-Canned goods

This kit is in the event we have to leave our home for a long period of time, and resources are hard to come by.

This is a kit which is good to always have in your car.

We also have a first aid kit specifically packed in case we need to evacuate the house. It includes:

-Alcohol
-Bandages in various sizes
-No Doze
-Asprin
-Hydrogen peroxide
-Rubber gloves

Our kits are built with the idea of a natural disaster striking, and help not being available immediately. We also have the idea that long term kits are just as important as the 24-72 hour kit we created because if you home is destroyed, you will want to take what's most important with you.
