How to Wear Ballet Flats with All Your Autumn and Winter Outfits

Lisa Riggs
The picture of innocence yet urban sophistication, Ballet Flats are one of the most versatile choices in footwear there is. Made popular by the stunning Audrey Hepburn, these classic shoes are sleek and stylish, yet extremely comfortable. While you may be more of a boot gal during the colder months of the year, swapping out your black leather pair for work, with your cozy fleece knee high boots for weekend fun, Ballet Flats are a fashion forward alternative that can be worn with almost any outfit combination you come up from your closet.

Wear Ballet Flats Instead Of Heels Or Boots To Work. Available in a variety of colors and styles, this shoe can be worn with basically any professional outfit you choose to wear. Black or navy Ballet Flats look wonderful with a dark colored suit or dark stockings and a neutral shirt dress. Equally appropriate for both trousers and skirts, these traditional shoes will quickly become your go to footwear each and every day of the work week. An added plus is that the flats are a much more sensible choice than heels, when snow and ice is in the forecast.

Ballet Flats Add A Bit Of Punch To Basic Jeans. Both dark and light denim look fantastic with this shoe. Whether you prefer skinny or boyfriend style jeans, adding a pair of Ballet Flats will give the outfit a little bit of fashion flair. Wear a turtleneck or fisherman sweater, or a long sleeve cotton tee shirt with a patterned scarf around your neck for a Fall or Winter ensemble that strikes the right balance between casual and dressy.

Choose Ballet Flats Over Heels For Your Holiday Outfits. Dressing up for a Christmas Eve or New Year's party is always a nice change of pace, but those heels can certainly become tiresome as the evening wears on. You don't need to lose any of your holiday polish by swapping out those stilettos with a great pair of flats. Choose a pair in a complementary color as your dress but opt for the styles that have a bit of sparkle in them, instead of a solid color. Not only will you get many admiring glances during the evening, your feet will thank you in the wee hours of the morning.

Wear Black Ballet Flats For A Monochromatic Look. Few outfits are more striking than all black. So slimming and so stylish, an all black ensemble can be finished off with a pair of simple black flats. Go for the Audrey Hepburn look, with black turtleneck, black trousers and ballet flats. Update the classic look with a great statement necklace or a chain belt. Not only will you look very fashion forward, you will also find this particular outfit easily takes you between outings and functions this Fall and Winter.

Ballet Flats Make A Great Transitional Shoe Between Seasons. There is often a few days or weeks at the change of seasons where the temperatures fluctuate widely. Occasionally there is even very unseasonable weather during Fall and Winter that allows us to ditch the heavy coats for a bit and has us wondering how strange it would look if we dragged those sandals back out of storage to wear instead of the boots we just had on yesterday. It is at these times that the ballet flat comes in very handy. They can be worn without tights or stockings, but it's closed toe still makes the shoe look very appropriate for the time of year. Pair the shoe with a cute layered outfit, so that if by late afternoon or evening the temperature dips back down again, you will still be quite comfortable.

My daughter wears ballet flats quite a bit ~ I wish these had been an option when I was a teen, since I used to tower over most of my friends (and even some of my dates!).
