How to Make Wedding Day Dancing Shoes

Pearlygates
When a couple of my nieces were getting married, I tried to think of a little something special I could make for them, in addition to their shower gifts. I decided on the wedding day dancing shoes. They turned out to be pretty useful.

After the wedding, the pictures and dinner, the bride can already have some pretty tired feet. So I made them their dancing shoes, something they could slip into and dance the night away.

First find out the size you will need and buy a pair of white canvas tennis shoes. I chose to keep all the materials on the shoes white, but that is completely up to you.

Materials you may want to use for Wedding Day Dancing Shoes

White rose

Tiny satin roses

Lilies of the valley

Crystal beads

Pearl beads

Seed beads

Rhinestones

Tiny buttons

Sequins

Lace trims

Wired lace

Wired satin ribbon

Satin braiding

Feather boa

Pearl fabric paint

Glitter fabric paint

How to Decorate your Wedding Day Dancing Shoes

First of all you need to remove the shoe strings from the tennis shoes; you will not be using them. You will be putting in wired ribbon or lace in place of the shoe strings, but wait until the end when you are all through decorating.

Next take a satin braiding or fabric paint, and were the tennis shoes are sewn together follow along that edge with the fabric paint or glue on a satin braiding, strand of tiny pearls or a piece of lace trim.

I used Weldbond fabric glue and it worked very well. But, I'm sure any good fabric glue will work fine. Let dry a bit.

On the top edge of the shoe you can glue on a feather boa, lace trim, a strand of beads or pearls.

Next you will be gluing on beads, pearls, rhinestones, sequins or tiny satin flowers around on the shoe. Dab on specs of glue and place your choice of accessory on the dabs of glue. Do this maybe an inch or so all around the shoe, on the canvas.

Take a piece of flat lace or satin ribbon and glue along the bottom side of the shoe, on the rubber. * Note that when buying this lace or ribbon you will want to measure the size of the rubber sole side.

If you would like take a white rose and glue it on the top toe part of the shoe.

Now at the end, you will put your wired ribbon or lace in for the shoe strings. Take the shoe string that was in there and measure the length needed for the ribbon.

Excellent information and one that is important for brides. My shoes were terrible and I was so glad to be in comfortable ones during the receiption (not visible under my dress). Many brides probably have shoes unfit for dancing but perfect for walking down the aisle. Good topic!

That is a great idea! My friend actually just wore her regular tennis shoes at her wedding, they could have used a little cuteness!
