How the "Weeds" Season Six Finale Sets Up Season Seven

Many fans of Showtime's "Weeds" got back on board with the show this season after a shaky fifth season. With the Botwins on the run as far away from the Mexican border as possible, the show started to feel a little more like the beloved early seasons.

In true "Weeds" fashion, the season ended in a big way with Nancy turning herself into the FBI for the murder of Pilar Suazo. Now that the shock of the finale has faded, it's not hard to imagine how the whole ordeal will be resolved next season.

While I wouldn't put it past the "Weeds" writers to follow Nancy into prison for an entire season, there's definitely an easy, logical way out of this. Just like she told Esteban and Guillermo when they finally caught up with her, she has a lot of information regarding Esteban's shady dealings. And no doubt, she will use that to get herself off the hook.

Though it wouldn't be totally surprising if the writers took the show to Copenhagen, it's certainly doubtful. And thanks to Plan C, now they don't have to. The FBI, like reporter, Vaughn, probably figured out that it was Shane that killed Pilar. And the always clever, Nancy, will no doubt use everything she knows about Esteban and the Mexican drug cartel to protect herself and her family. It's so simple that it almost makes us wonder why she didn't do this to begin with. Not that I'm complaining; the steamy Mark-Paul Gosselaar sex scene mid-season was sufficient justification for the time spent on the run.

The real question becomes, where will they go next? Nancy's bold maneuver was definitely a departure from her often, questionable parenting. It follows that if she gets out of this one unscathed she will want to settle down and finally give her children a stable home life.

Doug's return to Agrestic, now rebuilt after the fire and renamed Regrestic, might provide a clue that they're taking the show back to its humble suburban roots. Long time fans have been waiting for this since the Botwins left Agrestic in the first place. Perhaps the writers are finally ready to give everyone what they want. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. But as long as we never have to hear about any more Mexican drug lords, I'm pretty sure most viewers will be pleased.
