How to and Where to Learn Japanese in Dallas, Texas

Avalon
I was born with a strange passion for Asian Cultures and even though I grew up in the Western Hemisphere, all my life was surrounded by the Japanese influence in one way or the other. Far from getting "you" the reader into the story of my life, this article is intended to guide those interested in becoming students of the Japanese language in Dallas, Texas.

I lived in Japan, studied Japanese and its culture for more than 3 years and then left to America; I got crazy about finding an inexpensive language program where I live now, Dallas, Texas. I didn't want to forget what I learned all these years. From Hiragana and Katakana, and, of course, my few repertoires of Kanji, I came across the Dallas Japanese Association, which emphasizes on practical conversation. The program stresses comprehension and practical conversation skills over formal academics. And I thought..., this is just perfect for me!! However, there is a caution: successful completion of this program will not earn academic credit under the American Education System. Therefore, this program is strictly for Japanese language/culture lovers.

Another great advantage apart from the affordability is if you would like register now and you don't mind to join a class that has already started, the student can start right away and the Association would charge on a prorated basis. After living in Dallas for almost 3 years, I decided to start classes to refresh and maintain my Japanese skills and maybe use it sometime in my professional life or just to help people like myself, who wanted to have the "Japanese" experience and are planning to travel to Japan for leisure, studies or work.

Whatever you are planning to do, it is always desirable to do some research beforehand such as common phrases, common Kanjis for train stations and customs and traditions before the trip, so you don't get "Lost in Translation".

Do not miss the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth, which focuses on conducting seminars, events and educational activities about U.S.- Japan relationship. The society offers exchange programs between Dallas and Sendai, International Friendship Cities, representing a great source of information about Japan and resources in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.!! And if you would like to socialize and interact with people, who have the same Japanese culture/language interests, do not miss the Dallas-Plano Japanese Language Meetup Group! You will truly enjoy it!
