How to Use Wii Sports for Weight Loss

You Don't Need the Wii Fit to Use Your Wii for Weight Loss

Marnie
I got my Wii recently and started playing Wii Sports which comes with the system. I started to think about how I can incorporate this into an exercise routine to lose weight. I cannot afford the Wii Fit which is geared towards weight loss but I decided to get creative and use Wii Sports to make it happen. Wii Sports has 5 sport games with it: Tennis, Bowling, Baseball, Golf, and Boxing. I followed this routine and saw results in about 3 weeks.

Warm up

For my warm up I used the Wii Sports function that allows you to practice to get better at the games. I played each practice round one time for each sport. Once you practice with a round a new different way to practice gets unlocked. This is good as it keep the monotony down while warming up. I prefer the punching bags in boxing , bowling as many pins as you can, and hitting home runs as a good warm up.

Cardio
I found the best 2 sports to get my heart rate up were Tennis, and Boxing. I play 1 best out of 6 tennis against the computer, then 1 best out of 3 game and then moved on to 2 games with 3 rounds each of boxing. As you progress your score goes up with 1000 being the expert level of playing. I use that as an extra challenge to keep me motivated.

Extra
I like to do a little extra here and there to keep me going and mix it up. That is where your Wii fitness age comes in. Wii fitness age measures your age based on 3 random practice activities that that Wii picks for you. These are the same activities you usually do in your warm up. I like to do this for fun to see where I am and keep my age below 35 at all times. It is a fun way to play activities you might not usually try during your warm up.

Using these techniques with Wii Sports. I saw an improvement in my body in only 3 weeks. Of course watching your diet helps immensely. What I like best is that I don't need to leave my house, I can do it in any weather, there are 5 different sports to try, it doesn't cost extra outside the system, it doesn't feel like I am exercising, I can play against others, and best of all it is fun.
