Trouble in Paradise is the latest version of Viva Pinata. This release features both new pinatas, garden tools and many rare wild card pinatas. A wild card pinata is a rare version of an existing pinata. The wild card might have original features, such as horns, and it is worth ten times more than the regular pinata. While some of the wild cards are fun to look at and show off, they can also provide a decent amount of chocolate coins, the currency in Viva Pinata.

All the pinatas in Trouble in Paradise are assigned a level, and in general, the higher the level, the more difficult it is to receive a wild card of that species. In total, there are three different wild cards for each pinata, but you can only hatch two on your own.

The method to receive a wild card pinata is through the romance mini-game. Once you have two same-species pinata residents in your garden, fulfill the romance requirements for that species. Select the pinata and look at the information given in the encyclopedia. Requirements might include a house, a certain seed or an accessory. To make a pinata eat a seed or a flower, select the pinata and direct it to the item.

Next, you must breed the pinatas until you have a total of six residents in your garden. As you get the master romancer award for that species in the next breeding, you also have a chance of a wild card.

In the mini-romance game there are hearts scattered around the area. The only way to receive a wild card pinata is to collect all the hearts and return to the finish line before time runs out. If you are unsuccessful, each new try costs 50 chocolate coins. Since the timer does not begin until you move, you can prepare the most efficient path before starting the game.

Once the game is completed, if all the hearts were collected, you will receive a wild card pinata of that species. You can zoom in on the pinata once it is hatched to examine its features, and repeat the mini-game for a chance of the other wild card.

The third wild card can only be traded or gifted from a friend, or scanned from a card. Optionally, you can create a new profile and play co-op in the garden to breed the pinata from the second profile. However, each gardener can only hatch two varieties of wild cards.

The most important element in hatching rare pinatas is patience and spare chocolate coins. The reward for the rarest of the species is however, well worth it.
