It doesn't matter because we all hold the pen that will ink the last entry of our lives. It is ours to finish the story when the days are over. We are writing our own life stories and that makes us all writers. Is your pen running out of ink?
I have come to terms that this life is a temporal thing and I am not a permanent resident here. I'm doing a much better job these days in the penning of my life's story. I have a good idea of the final chapter and it is one that I am actively writing as we speak. There will be no surprise endings, no twists and no suspenseful cliff hangers.
I honestly did not always feel this way. I had a different view from a differing vantage point until I had what the world calls several "near-death" or close calls. It gives you a different outlook on life, living and dying. For me, it was a wake-up call that left me wide awake.
I have put my "house" in order - just in case my call comes sooner than later. I know where my final destination will be and I am planning my exit strategy. So, when my husband and I met with a financial planner recently - I took all of those options into consideration. It catches some folks off-guard when you speak openly about death and dying. When I explained that the chances and circumstances are that "my husband will outlive me" - the financial wizard was speechless. She stumbled upon her own words and finally said, "How can you be so happy as you tell me this?"
I am content in all things. If the Lord should take me from this place tomorrow - I want what I leave behind to be organized, well thought out and less painful for those who will "miss me when I'm gone."
Fear not, I'm hoping my final day is not in the very near future - but if it should be, my chapter is outlined and whoever gets to finish my story will have my words, my wishes and my thoughts on every single issue to leave them no doubt how to end the chapter and close the book when the time comes.
I hope they just put it on the shelf, label it "her best work yet" and dust me off once in a while.
It begs the question - How will you end your story? The choice is yours.
