How Will the Terrorist Strike Next?

How will the terrorist strike next? The question has been in the back of many Americans minds since the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Will they even strike again at all? The violence in other parts of the world, and the fact that al-Qaeda is still an operational organization with it's leader still at large, makes it seem that another attack may be inevitable.

Despite the efforts the United States government has taken, there may be no way to prevent a terrorist attack. Just getting on an airplane in the days, months and years since September 11th, has been a serious hassle for many Americans. Routinely, Americans have to take off their shoes and get scanned with a wand for any metal and bomb sniffing dogs and soldiers with M-16s are not an unusual site at the airport. So its pretty safe to say that they won't be attacking through the air again. The borders have also seen a serious elevation in security, although it may never be enough, and of course there is the infamous Patriot Act, and the Department of Homeland Security that was implemented after the September 11th attacks.

So how will the terrorist strike next and where? It's doubtful that we will see the type of suicide bombings we have seen in Iraq on our home soil, however it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that we could see some suicide attacks in America. It seems more like if the terrorist attack America, they want to inflict massive casualties with one single attack, and are willing to wait years upon years to do so. The September 11th attacks took years of planning before they were finally carried out.

A nuclear attack seems unlikely, but again not out of the realm of possibility. The terrorist would first have to get their hands on a nuclear bomb, which isn't particularly easy, and then transport it into the United States. The prime target would probably be again New York City, but other cities like Washington D.C and Los Angeles or Chicago can't be ruled out for an attack. A biological attack seems to be like the most logical attack the terrorist would use to attack the United States, however, carrying out a biological attack is also not easy. A high concentration of chemicals needs to be delivered over a high enough radius to inflict enough casualties. These chemicals may be easier to come across then a nuclear bomb though.

When and if the terrorist attack again, America and her allies will remain resilient, and will not back down to terrorism. Troops overseas and at home are working around the clock to protect American citizens from an attack. Law enforcement agencies are conducting investigations day and night to bring the terrorist to justice. Terrorist are being detained and questioned constantly, and are giving vital information that aids us in finding out their future plans.

The fight on terrorism will be a long and hard battle perhaps lasting for many decades, the big question is, how much freedom are the citizens of the United States willing to give up in order to keep our nation secure and where is that balance? Only time will tell us what is going to happen next.
