How to Win Online Lexulous and Scrabble

Tips to Make a Good Game Better

Marie Anne St. Jean
Tip #1 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Multiple Words
Always look for a place to make multiple words from one play. Scan the board to see if a consonant can be added at an intersection to make multiple words. One or two letters in the right spot can add nicely to your score.

Tip #2 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Use your S Wisely
If you have an S, rearrange the letters in your rack to make a word and then see if the S in your new word can make an existing word plural. Don't waste an S to make a single existing word plural unless that word is already high-scoring, or if adding the S will put you on a double or triple word space.

Tip #3 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Scramble Your Letters
Online Lexulous and Scrabble games have a feature to scramble the letters in your rack with one click - use it. Scrambling your letters frequently will help you see different letters side-by-side, opening up word combinations that you may not have seen otherwise.

Tip #4 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Use the Dictionary Feature
The dictionary contains thousands of obscure words that the average Joe or Jane wouldn't know is valid. I don't know anyone that has the dictionary memorized, so if you're stumped, open the dictionary feature and start throwing together various combinations of the letters in your rack. There is no penalty for using the dictionary, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Tip #5 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Don't Discount 2-letter Words
2-letter words are underrated. Most Scrabble and Lexulous games have a 2-letter word list, so use it to your advantage. The words QI, ZA or AX in the right place can increase your score dramatically. Again, look for places to put these little gems to make more than one word or place them on a pink, red or blue space to explode their worth.

Tip #6 - How to Win Online Lexulous or Scrabble - Pass or Trade Wisely
There will be times that even the best player just can't make a play, so suck it up and either trade a few tiles or pass your turn. If you have all vowels or consonants, it's better to pick a few tiles to trade. If you keep the same lousy tiles, you'll likely have the same problem the next turn because you can't predict if your opponent will make a word that you can play off of. If you have a really good bingo in your rack but nowhere to play it, it might be worth passing, but only if you see areas of the board that can be opened up. Don't pass more than one turn holding on to that bingo or your opponent will be racking up points while you're getting zero, waiting for an opportunity that may never present itself. If there are few tiles left near the end of the game you may have no choice but to pass your turn.

Tip #7 - How to Win Lexulous or Scrabble - Play the Game
The old adage that practice makes perfect is true for online Lexulous and Scrabble games as well. The more games you play, the more opportunities you'll have to watch your opponents' game strategies and pick up tips from them. Playing more allows you to hone the skills I mention above.

You can also use tools such as scrabble finder, which find the best possible words from the tiles you have from the official dictionary. It's a good way to get unstuck. :)

I love Scrabble and I agree that these are good tips. I think you have a typo here also. After tip #6 you have tip #1 again, I think that was supposed to be #7 instead of #1.
