How to Win at Slots

Slot machines are the most popular feature at most casinos. Unlike card games or roulette they can be played at any pace, anytime and don't require any special skills.

Slot machine became popular in America in the 1940's thanks to mobsters like Bugsy Siegel, but they have been around since the early 1800s. Although playing the slots is really a true game of chance there are some things you can do to maximize your chances of a big payout:

Remember, slots cost money, and it is easy to get carried away, feeding coin after coin into a single machine. Go to the machines with a set budget, and avoid the temptation to exceed it. Casinos are notorious for filling their rooms with a large number of ATMs and other means of accessing cash quickly. If you think you will be tempted to exceed your limit, leave your ATM or credit card with someone else!

*Try betting the maximum number of pay lines offered. The big money in slots is the jackpot, and it is hard to hit unless you have all the available pay lines covered.

Keep an eye on the other machines around you. Look out for ones that do not seem to have paid out in a while. Do not however, steal a go on a machine that someone else is actually still playing. Its bad casino etiquette and it could result in a rather nasty argument. It is annoying in a casino when one person hogs several machines, by placing bags or coats on otherwise empty seats and runs back and forth between machines. I have seen it happen a lot. If you feel someone is unfairly tying up too many machines, have a quiet word with a member of the casino floor staff, who should be able to remedy the situation without incident.

The flashiest slots are not always the best ones to play. Checking out the average payout percentages is a far better guide to which are good slots to gamble your money on. Check out all the available machines in the room before you start playing. Some machines have far better bonuses than others, and those machines are not always the biggest or brightest on the floor.

Have fun. Slots are all about luck. If you just like the fun of playing the slots but don't want to risk your hard earned cash, there are a lot of online casino sites that will let you play slot games free. Not quite the same as hitting a crowded Las Vegas gaming room, but fun in itself regardless.
