How to Win at Texas Hold'em Poker by Manipulating Other Players

Forcing Other Players to Play on Tilt

Stephen Joltin
I was once playing with one of the best female poker champions In the World. I asked her what type of players would be on her dream table. She replied quickly "a table full of drunks." Then she thought for a moment and corrected herself "better yet a table full players out to get me." It is this second type of player which is far more desirable than a table full of drunks because you almost never find poker players in a high level games drinking even one glass of alcohol. This is like driving drunk and modern players know it is foolhardy to imbibe and play poker. When I said I would write an article about this she asked me not to mention her name as it could cost her money if this got out. I will comply with her request, sorry.

Manipulating other players at your table is a method used by many famous players who I can name. Phil Hellmuth is famous for manipulating players with his loud mouth, constant insults and bragging. Is he a bad player? No way, he purposely tries to annoy and intimidate his fellow players. He has the more World Series Of Poker bracelets than any other player. Mike "The Mouth" Matusow is another example of this type of player. If it didn't work for him, you probably would have never heard of him. Many female players use techniques including flirting, verbal emasculation (attacking a man's masculinity), and distraction. Jennifer Tilley wears low cut dresses and tight clothes to go with her World Series Of Poker bracelet. If you don't notice she will even talk about her upper body exposure.

Induced Tilt

The object of manipulation and questionable behavior is to make the other players, or at least as many as possible go on tilt. If you can make an opponent go on tilt they will play in a very distracted way. Usually they will go in too many hands just to try to beat you, stay in each hand too long, and bet in an irrational manner. If someone is angry at you and out to get you they will stay in while you patiently wait for a great hand to create a monster pot to build up your chip stack with their previous wealth. Some men will go in against a pretty woman just to get her attention. He may want her attention, but all she wants is his money. When a woman emasculates a male player, he will go on tilt even if he wins one small hand from her while losing several large hands. This is a bad business strategy.

The victims of induced tilt do not even realize it. What is worse yet is that even if they did realize it, they could do nothing about it. When a male ego is injured damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

My Personal Lesson

When I was playing in a cash game, many years ago, one very busty and very friendly woman was playing next to me. She would joke about her large top. In return if I knew I had her beat, I would tell her to go out unless she could beat a very powerful hand. I felt so stupid when a guy next to me told me not to be so generous with her since she had just won the woman's World Series Of Poker bracelet and was just working me. She sure was. I have never done that again.

How to Manipulate A Player At Your Table

Show them the hold cards of a hand which you just bluffed them out of. In addition a little smirk or eye roll will do wonders. Laugh at people, not with them. This is the exact opposite of what you should do to be polite. Tell them to read a book about how to play poker. Ask them which Podunk town produced a poker player like them. Tell them you just want to go there to make a fortune. These are all put downs. They work. If you're a woman who is very pretty, flirt. If not so pretty emasculate the men. Better yet flirt and emasculate.

Soon you will be playing on your dream table.

  • Induce other players to go on Tilt.
  • Players "out to get you" are poor players
  • Don't flirt ot let a woman distract you
If you don't see any suckers on your poker table, you are the sucker.

Very interesting. I never understood what the thrill was with poker, but I see it's more about psychological game playing than just what cards you are dealt. Good article.
