How to Win the War in Iraq

Howard Roark
Everyone knows perfectly well that the war in Iraq is not looking so hot. As the cost of war increases and the public support ofthe war decreases, we have a very tricky situation on our hands. Not only do the people of the United States feel that the war is dragging on far too long, but the people of Iraq are growing tireless of the long drawn out war in the front yards.

In the early years of the United States, we fought for our democracy, we bled for our liberty, and we died for our freedom. However, in Iraq, the exact opposite is happening. A large majority are fighting against democracy; democracy is not somthing that can be forced on someone, that population has to want it. In order for democracy to be effective and to work, the people need to be involved and they need to support it.

Democracy doesn't work in all parts of the world. It is one of the best forms of government, but some places just aren't ready for it. Iraq is living proof that you cannot force democracy on a nation that does not want to accept it. We have spent over 400 billion dollars and have lost countless lives trying to enforce "Operation Iraqi Freedom".

Our main problem in Iraq is that we are beating around the bush, no pun intended. We are going in there half-assed afraid of getting the job done. This is dangerous to say, but we need to start kicking ass even if it means some innocent lives are lost. By being so careful about everything not only are we not getting the job done, we are making the war go on longer.

In World War 2 we would bomb entire towns just to destroy Nazi production facilities. We had to do it to put an end to the war. This was a very extreme act of total war, but it probably saved many lives in the long run, for had we been so careful about protecting innocent lives, the war could have lasted twice as long and had hundreds of thousands of more casualties.

That is why we need to start kicking butt right now. It is for the greater good in the long run if we just go in there and get the job done. If there are neighborhoods harboring terrorists we need to go down that neighborhood and kill the terrorists and arrest the individual that was harboring them.

Either way, we need to start putting our foot down and fight this battle like true americans. No more messing around, we have spent way too much money and lost too many soldiers for a defeat. Lets stop messing around and get the job done.

There is no victory except, perhaps, the satisfaction of taking revenge. We cannot let anger or frustration lead us down the wrong path. I believe that President Bush and Vice President Cheney are leading us on a one way trip to world war three where the only victory will be more fears of a terrorist attack. Alienation of all our allies will increase the risk of terrorist attacks.

And after we are done, and hundreds of thousands of people are killed, we still will not have won the war in Iraq. We still will be concerned that somewhere someone with a weapon of mass destruction is hiding in a cave, a cellar or a mountainous area, waiting for the right moment to strike. Meanwhile Al Qaida will use eye witness accounts to the devastation we will have caused, to enlist new members and spread the hatred of the US.

Yeah I am not an advocate of aggressive foreign policy, but if we are unfortunate enough to have a president who is off his rocker I would rather get in and get out rather than stay and occupy.

Thomas Jefferson said "Peace and commerce with all nations, entangling alliances with none"

I think he hit the nail right on the head with that.

Also there is this other little thing called, "Blow Back." Our transgressions in the past have lead to our problems today. It's about time we get disentangled in foreign affairs and worry about America. If we don't learn from our past mistakes we are doomed to repeat them.

Or we could do what Ron Paul suggests...pull out now and let then fight for their own Democracy...no foreign entanglements...isn't that what you suggested in some of your other articles?

What is your definition of "victory" in Iraq? So you basically say your solution is to "kick ass."

Mr Hazzard, You, My friend are a genius. Stay in there at the wheel and don't let 'em get your eye off the target. Learn from them, listen to them but don't let the sextons and the other meal-brains get into your head. Those people are choosing to indulge in provided as well as making their own deceptions. It eludes me why, but it is so. If one sits and reads thru those goomer's junk and spewage it can be dismantled in seconds, but people just dive on it like they have heard new gospels... eye on the target. Believe me, there are a lot of things that can't be said by Bush. A LOT!! That is why he comes across as unable to "talk good" so much. :-)

    >>>"I don't think "victory" is something we should be aiming for. "Stability" maybe.">>> There is no stability without victory, there is no victory in defeat. I just hope it isn't too late. WWIII is coming, no question. Look at a map... notice what 2 countries surround Iran? Maybe Bush isn't that stupid afterall. Perhaps he knows what's coming and is preparing? Nah....
