How to Make a Wine Gift Basket

Malina Debrie
Gift baskets continue to be one of the most popular items to give when a person is home ill, coming home from the hospital, for Christmas or just about any occasion one wishes to give a gift. When creating a wine gift basket on your own, include items that are those the individual is fond of to set the tone of all other items to add to the basket.

Include Items That Compliment Wine

When giving a wine gift basket, include items that will compliment the flavor of the wine(s). For example, if the wine is a dry white wine or champagne, add cheddar cheese, Gouda cheese or any gourmet cheeses that go well with white wine. In addition add crackers along with jams and tasteful blends of cheese spreads. Include a small decorative spreading knife. Add fruit such as grapes or blueberries, strawberries, cherries or cantaloupe in a wine gift basket.

Include Meats and Chocolate

Wines go well with meats such as salami, sausages and ham, dark or semi sweet chocolates such as truffles or assorted confection chocolates. Also you might wish to include in a wine gift basket a variety of cashews, salted peanuts, walnuts or almonds or even gourmet nuts along with raisins.

Include Games, Books or Puzzles

In addition to edibles, you can also add differing items that will peak an individuals interest such as a crossword puzzle or a mini series book. If you know the recipient loves to read, it a good idea to find out the type of books they enjoy reading and add a mini series or one good novel from their favorite author.

Include Gender Specific Items

If the recipient is a female, add a lovely bracelet or a pair of earrings, a makeup kit or nice petite/mini colognes. Or if your recipient is a male, add a corkscrew or a book on wines, even a mini PC game will delight the techno male. Determine the items of interest for the recipient and include mini products that will keep them interested or just for their enjoyment.

Creating a wine gift basket or any gift basket should be fun. Add items you know are of interest to the recipient. For example when giving a child a gift basket, add mini toys, word puzzles, games. So, for the wine lover, when preparing a wine gift basket, add a variety of wines and gourmet cheeses. Add items you know will be pleasing to the person receiving the basket.

I wouldn't add wine or alcohol unless I knew if the person was a drinker, and cold cuts so many people do not eat process meats anymore I wouldn't chance that either unless I knew the person did still eat them.
