How Women Over 50 Can Naturally Regain Their Lost Sexual Energy

Ann Grant
A large percentage of women over 50 lose their interest in having sex, this is due to a range of physical, emotional and psychological issues that women in this age group face. Medical research has shown that in many women over the age of 50 suffer from a disorder known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder otherwise known as HSDD which simply put is a loss of interest in sex.

Many different factors are thought to influence this medical condition and a major factor is the relationship of the woman and her sexual partner. This can be due to the woman not having any emotional satisfaction in the sexual experience, recent childbirth, the ability of the sexual partner to perform well and the schedule of the woman and her partner. Many professional women over 50 are simply too busy planning for retirement and other age related issues, and having sex is simply just not a priority to them.

Testosterone is known as the male hormone, but low testosterone levels in women are clinically proven to affect the sexual energy of most women over 50. Generally testosterone levels in women begin to fall from about age 30, after menopause though the levels fall dramatically resulting in a decrease in sexual energy.

Many women over 50 suffer from health problems which may affect their sexual energy. Any disease such as dementia, depression, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, fibroids or cancer can affect women and disrupt their physical and mental sides, resulting in a loss of sexual energy. Many medications that are used to treat these illnesses are also responsible for a lost sex drive. Many antidepressants, drugs that lower blood pressure and many other prescription medications lower the sexual energy of women over 50 due to a reduction in blood pressure, lowering of testosterone levels and other effects.

Generally there is never any one factor which causes a decrease in sexual energy, but the reduction is due to a combination of effects, both physical and mental that must be treated. Potential treatment options include various different treatments. Sexual therapy can help to mend unresolved sexual issues between the woman and her sexual partner to ensure that they both can enjoy sex due to increased sexual energy. Changing medications known to have an effect of sexual energy and performance is something that should be discussed with a doctor or health care professional to ensure that sex is wonderful again, when sex is pleasurable again, your sex drive will increase automatically.
